Startup area srinking habit

Recommended Posts

As the title said the  startup area is shrinking  more and more as the game advances. For me this isn't a problem but from a new player perspective he will run of algae or dirt, or water before knowing what was the problem. When i was start playing the startup area was 2,5 time bigger than this (before outbreak update). I understand that is done for preventing the late game-play lag (bigger area, more resources, bigger lag), but as i said whit the regolith problem. The game need balance. It can limit the late lag by make optional some of lag causes (report generation), simpler path for dupes (when building the dupe can take the closest available resource instead of the closest available resources on ground) and creatures (i never tame them for kipping the same number and prevent lag), resources conversion (in this version abbysalite is useless, also magma is useless because you can't pump it without breaking the pump)

Instead of making areas smaller for preventing lag, make some effort and fight the cause not the effect.

In all my games I have excess of reed fiber (now is needed for insulation in late game), and balm lilies (pills are needed only in early game, once you setup your exosuit on the exit area of your base all the germs in the asteroids can't kill you) useless because you don't need pills, you can't melt it because is organic and + 9000 degrees needed, and you can't compost them either.

In my vision of the game you can have the possibility to use all the resources, all the resources must be reachable (here see the neutronium  circles  in the magma area preventing you to reach the magma trapped inside), store if you want all resources created (it was a time when melted gold or diamond wasn't possible to storage, now is sulfur), transported (liquid and gas bottle can't be transported by automation, only by dupes), and also if you are in late game and have build rockets, you can prevent the starvation of your colony by suspending your dupe inside command module, or even finish the game by assigning all the dupes to rockets.

Also in space area is the same 5 type of planets whit the same range. What could i do whit 5 metal type planets if in none i find wolfram, or why i build special resources modules when on all the planets i can't find shove vole, or shine bugs, or puffs, or slickers. Or what i can do whit the data bank disk after i research all the planets? Nothing is genetic oze and can't be melted, or converted, only stored for future upgrade.

And not forget about the ruins. I appreciate now i can destroy the tiles, but not yet the leaders, or the vending machines, or dinner tables, or neural vindicators, or the void complex (in my previous game hot regolith melted the plants and i have undesired naptha in the complex, also i have plastic leaders in the magma area). I would like to have the possibility to dismantle them by study whit tenured scientist, and copy the blueprint, in this way you can upgrade your leaders design, your tables, your light, or move the AETN to a desired position by dismantling it and rebuild it where you want.

And also the egg cracker menu make me not wanting to tame any creature

I am not complaining, only give you feedback for polishing this game and make it better. Best regards.

If they fix these issues alone, I'd be incredibly happy. It's why I usually start a new base before breaking 1000 cycles, because the game takes 3 minutes to load and lags like crazy.

There is zero reason anyone would ever need more than 50 cycles of reports.

A lot of the issues with lag in massive bases could be solved by having the Fog of War return after a dupe hasn't gone there in over 10-20 cycles. Simply place a greyed out "Fog of War" over the area, and stop all simulation there, even if it has player structures.

I don't imagine the old reports are causing any troubles.  As for the "Fog of War" relapse? What if you have an automated system, say, your oxygen production. And your dupes never have to go in there.. and fog of war returns?  Now you have to remember to periodically send a dupe over to your automated system to get it going again...

I don't know about other players but there are large areas of my base that once I finish building them, I let them just run.  They provide my dupes with something they need, but the systems themselves don't need any interaction.  Usually I end up sealing them off.  That would have to change if Fog of War returned.  I wouldn't be able to seal the area off, and I'd have to make sure that a dupe goes there at some point before FoW returns.

Its a nice idea, but I think it'll cause more problems than it solves.

I think there should be an option to set the map size. It could enlarge the starting biome if the map is bigger. In a few years computers will handle the game better especially if they plan further dlc down the road so i think enabling bigger maps with a note they might cause fps problems for low end computers would be a good thing.

I think all resources should be usable one way or another. I had a few suggestions for lilly flowers. I`m sure sulfur will get more attention soon (they made art for it so i think they have something planned). They just need to add the missing stuff to the compactor list (fullerene, solid methane).

I`m sure planets will get some more changes. At least they should add shove voles on some of them. Would be nice to have some wolframite in space too. Other than that i`m ok with it being random so that you have to find the ones that have resources you want.

A use for data discs would be nice too. Maybe you could craft something out of them like vasciliator recharges.
