WanderingKid
So as some of you know, and anyone near the discord lately, I've been working on my 100 cycles to stable bases for a while. I've finally got a reasonably built pattern for stabilizing 25+ dupes (depends on the RNG for horrid dupes) and this is one of my iterations for it I'd like to share. The main barracks were built right above the pod and expanded over time. Spaces are made for loud snoring dupes. Stacking in some extra beds that could be removed later to expand the secondary barracks makes it easier in the early times. The secondary barracks houses more dupes, and could be more easily expanded upon if the local storage for the metal refinery was placed better. It is on the opposite side of the main living area. The main living area is a giant décor bomb abusing the airflow tiles for décor visibility. I have not raided the oil biome yet. As a matter of fact, I don't even have a single exosuit built. In shifts of 4, my dupes are able to easily use the facilities, shower, get a massage when necessary, etc. The small rec room houses the 3 shine bugs that are around for some added décor. Earlier bluff briars were used but then deconstructed when the heat got a bit high for them. The Main Hall is 120 cells and can handle 30 dupes. The main oxygen source is a bank of four electrolyzers. I use one pump per electrolizer to distribute O2 and allow the rest to 'drift' locally. Automation is set to 1 kg for the O2 pumps and 650 g for the H pumps. Also in the core of the base is our early main power trunk. It provide approximately 50% of the power for the trunk now, but was 100% of the power before the electrolizers were online. The only exception is the metal refinery, I'll show that shortly. Now, supplementing the Coal Power is the excess hydrogen from the electrolizers being sent to a pair of hydrogen generators that are being tuned. It could use some beautification. The final part of the power handling our base is a separate circuit that was built early and continues to run for our metal refinery. Using the waste tank from the lavatory/sieve loop, it provides our refined metal needs quite well. If we move into the oil biome, we'll reconstruct this down there for using petro coolant and petrogens. We have a few a couple of heat methods, but the two biggest in use are the 2 wheezeworts in hydrogen at the main coal power area, and an aquatuner loop that was constructed about 20 cycles ago. It's still trying to cool down the base via O2 distribution, but it's reasonable already. The aquatuner is a standard polluted water coolant flush system using sieves. The tuned Hydogen generators give plenty of power to support it when it actually turns on. I've been staging it down slowly (~10 degrees at a time) to make sure it doesn't overwhelm the main power trunk. The main power system is Heavi-Watt based with transformers except for the Refinery circuit which is a separate component. Our food area is in two parts. Originally it was mealwood but that has been removed for a bit now except for feeding a lonely wooly drecko for some glossy eggs. The majority of the food storage is now mushrooms from this area. It only has enough food for 15 dupes but it's now a backup and not the primary. There should be one more square of space between tiers for room for a Conveyor Loader that I forgot to include when I built it, so there are a few extra sweepers that wouldn't normally be needed without that. We occasionally feed some CO2 into the vent system as we've pressurized the area to keep the shrooms happy. Our primary food now is BBQ, which is supported by 5 hatch ranches. Eggs are all carried to the nursery, which are allowed to naturally incubate hatch by using an egg dropper. Hatches are allowed to grow up. Auto-wrangler doesn't work for tiny babies, so they're allowed to romp and play until.... until it's drowning time. My qualified team of two chefs are always at the ready to handle fried mushrooms, pepper bread, and BBQ requests. Our main water tank was recently refilled so we've got an excellent supply on hand for any other needs. Don't mind the spot in the middle, I don't. The water tank was our primary source of water for research, starting lavatories, and other needs. Now it's just the backup water source for our electrolizers. The main source for the electrolizers are a pair of currently dormant Cool Steam Geysers with sieve flush cooling systems and our Water Storage. We're still draining the excess water from one of them that was running for a while. Together they provide an average of 2550 g/s. Water Storage is expanding again, please don't mind our mess. The first cool steam was also just recently dormanted, analyzed, and sealed, so it's still waiting for it's sieve for the cooling system once we get the other pipes out of the way from the water. A secondary Polluted Water system is being pumped from below. That little NG Geyser down there is weak but we'll eventually use it as a supplemental power source and Polluted Water source. The pool above the gravity drain provides water to all the Polluted water coolers (Aquatuner, 2 cool steams) as well as refill water for the main water tank. Finally, to help with our dupes vitamins needs (It IS Miserable, after all), our chlorinated balm lily farms. This is more an over enthusiastic ditch we dug into the bottom of a jungle biome and put some planters in. If I stopped cold right here, the base could supply itself for a good long while 40 hatches (which are converting to stone) in ranches provide us our main food with igneous rock. Supplemental food of wild pepper bread and mushrooms certainly would support us. There is 13t of algae left still for our manufacturing areas to have some extra O2, and more can be easily obtained. The cooling system will actually remove the heat problem soon enough for our dupes to be comfortable. I consider this a successful run for 100 cycles to a reasonably sustainable base. No, it will not last forever in its current state, but you can certainly get what you want done in the next 200-300 cycles with little to no issues at all. As a reminder, this is all the difficulty levels dialed up to maximum (except hunger, because screw watching dupes chew for a few hours), so it's certainly doable in a normal survival game. I hope you've all enjoyed my little walk through. The save is attached if anyone wants to go tinker with it or if there's any questions or comments. Thanks for dropping by! Carnis
I recently quit playing my H.I.V.E base after the last oil-to-water loophole, rocketry I was patched. We were running on water geyser driplets and I think it was 96 duplicants at cycle 286. I had 2 cool steam, 1 water and 1 pwater, but not sustainable for oxygen, in the longer term without oil-to-water & oil-to-petroleum-water would not be enough either. Food was surprisingly easy with 96 mushrooms, 7 fertiliser synthetisators, 4 cooks, 20 farmers. Supplemented by 16 hatches and 25 dreckos + 20 dense pufts. * Scrambling for water became a bit hectic towards the end. A bit too hectic, was also running miserable/fatalistic. Miserable is the main enemy though, fatalistic became easy after expressive. It seemed to me, that after 90 duplicants immunity scores stopped updating, since even my -4%/cycle regeneration dupe didn't reach 0. * I like your steam geyser implementation, not sure if its necessary but it sure is heat effective. It is a bit overkill, but I like to make sure it's one and done. This makes sure I never accidentally freeze or boil, and it's reasonably quick to setup once you're used to the pattern. 21 hours ago, thejams said: That is a quick ramp-up... my "everything-must-be-neat" OCD always slows me down Yeah, I have to surrender that. Either I can get done, or make it pretty. I've gotten a decent amount of builds in that are neat enough.
