Slvrsrfr
Since I don't recall another request or suggestion, and the simple search doesn't have any results, could coal also become a by-product of erupting volcanoes? It'd be nice if it were not limited to seed generated amounts per say, but the potential for a renewable resource may not be so bad. It being a function solely of hatches ,IMO, seems excessive. Initially I searched for 'coal vent', because I can't really picture it being one of the vents, or geysers. But, then it occurred to me that it could simply be a by-product of naturally occurring eruptions already designed into the game. Why not add some additional value to the sometimes-shunned volcano? And I can't imagine a coal geyser. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96224-adding-coal-as-output-from-volcanos/ Share on other sites
crypticorb
Not sure I like the idea of having coal come from volcanoes. First problem, most volcanoes would simply turn it into pure carbon almost instantly, which is a completely different material for different purposes. Second problem, there aren't any undesirable volcanoes. Iron, copper, gold, and minor/major magma volcanoes are all awesome in different ways. Lastly, coal isn't exactly a hard material to come by, with maps generating enough to almost never need ranching unless coal is heavily relied upon, and hatch ranching is quite easy. I'm not against the idea of varying materials, or side effect materials coming from vents/geysers/volcanoes, but coal seems like the wrong focus. Coal doesn't exactly make sense coming from volcanoes because it's essentially fossilized plant material, not magma byproduct. Coal shouldn't be renewable to begin with. But we have creature who turn sand and rocks into coal - this what really makes no sense. As for coal, if for some reason coal will appear in magma, it will pyrolytically decompose to coke - high carbon content porous substance(analogue of charcoal), it is fuel. So this coke have low specific gravity(low density) - it will float on top of magma and can easily get out of volcano. InternetGuy
I think it would make more sense if volcanoes spit out a random chance of diamonds. That is how we have diamonds on the surface right now after all.
