Frame Rate Optimization

Recommended Posts

As anyone who has been playing this game well into the late game can tell, having choppy frames can absolutely crush any motivations to play this game any further than the mid-game let alone the end.

Im having some problems here. Understandably my GPU is quite old (GT 750M) but this is the sort of game I do not expect so substantial a drop in frames. It got to the point where pressing the pause button only happens like 1 second after the button was pressed and my dupes pauses every time they need to make a U-turn. The rocketry upgrade was pretty cool but Im not so sure the frame rate will allow me to enjoy myself up until I can finally get those dupes to don those astronaut suits.

Any suggestion on how to increase the frame rate? I'm sure there are plenty of people who has excavated the entire map only to find it moving at a snails pace towards the post box. With the late game being as intensive as I assume it to be, it may not be possible to simply ignore 75% of the map anymore.

ONI FPS scales exactly with the benchmark cpu score single thread value in the following link, gpu is on holiday for this game ( reference nvidia 1060/70/80 only have few % work to do). Lookup your cpu in this link and you can compare how much FPS you could have with the listed cpu`s https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

The game uses an average of 8gb ram with windows10. The game only supports one core, i7/i9 series running a single core as fast as possible in Intel turbo boost mode with good cooling is recommended for this game. Amd falls way behind on single core turbo boost speed with ryzen/threadripper, which is sad.

Well, thats a bummer. Guess its a new laptop or do as you do, go debug and remove debris. Thanks for the info, at least I know now that a better gpu wont do as much.

Hope the devs can work on optimization next. The games pretty solid at this point, but its still heart shatteringly hard for me to put up with the dramatically slow frame rate to get to the end.

Yes, it can be frustrating with Oni. If you have a pc or want to buy/build one, the i3 6100 and follow up is a good low budget cpu for this game. Has no single core turbo boost, but good high clock speed and decent level 1,2,3 cache. For a bigger budget  i7 6700k and follow up cpu`s. Ive delidded an i7 7700k, running it with 1.3 kilo air cooler noctua nhd15 , no pc case, z270 chipset, running one core stable at 5.4 GHz with the game in turbo boost at 40 celsius. If you want to run the game seriously one will blow 100-200 watts cpu heat out. I had some usd3000 gaming notebooks in the past, its all crap and melts. Not even talking of low budget ones.

i3 6100 and board will not cost you much, you can also buy those used for small money. If you like you can mention your cpu here...

Hope you can enjoy Oni someday better. ;)
