Application for sour gas

Recommended Posts

Hello,

The rocketry update makes the oil boilers obsolete as petroleum does not convert to natural gas anymore, but to sour gas. Although the oil boilers can be considered too powerful because they convert oil to natural gas in a 1 to 1 ratio, they are exceptionally hard to build because you need to manage the temperature and flow very carefully. Oil boilers are marvelous structures with often a high level of complexity and show what is possible within the game with a great amount of effort. Therefore I find the change quite unfair, and at the same time accept that oil to natural gas conversion should get a debuff.

So I was thinking, why not just introduce a sour gas processing plant? This is what happens in real life too: sour gas is natural gas added with hydrogen sulfide. They remove the this hydrogen sulfide through a process, leaving you with usable natural gas and a sulfuric  wasteproduct. This way you can introduce a fixed conversion ratio and have the player required to deal with a gasous by product. The processing plant could even be a POI instead of a buildable structure, just like the AETN.

But please, do not punish players for inventive, creative and effort-like gameplay, through completely making contraptions fully useless. I think that should be key here.

There are a lot of ideas for a use for the sour gas. I`m sure we will get one eventually.

As for the oil cooking there were already many people asking for it to be nerfed. Now that it`s reomved we get even more voices wanting it back in some form. They need to find balance so it`s still somewhat possible but no longer makes refineries obsolette. I guess the tradeoff for now is the refinery not producing sour gas but maybe there are more changes for the oil balance comming.
