MatthewCline
The default schedule has four squares (100 seconds at 1x speed) for downtime, which is going to leave new ONI players wondering why their dupes are spending so much time standing around doing nothing. It should be reduced to just enough time to eat 1,000 kcal (one square, I think) so that dupes starting up a new colony will spend as much time as possible working. The game would then give tips when appropriate to tell the player about changing the schedule. For example When the first cot is placed there could be a tip saying "With cots your duplicants only need to sleep for 100 seconds per cycle rather than 150; you can reduce the time they spend sleeping in the schedule editor". When the first water cooler is placed there could be a tip saying that the player needs to increase the amount of downtime duplicants have so that they can actually use the cooler. Yannick Vachon
Do not forget that if your dupes ae far away from the food and the recreation area and your bathroom, the travel time may leave them with no free time to do stuff with a reduced schedule. At the start, it may be too much but at one point, Ì saw starving dupes because my food was too far away from my mess tables.
