Gorge items in Base game?

Recommended Posts

Ok, this isn't another thread begging Klei to implement Gorge stuff into the base game. Instead, I have found some items from the Gorge that when spawned with console commands, act in interesting ways in the Base game. These items being pigeon, raw meat scraps, and cooked meat scraps. For some reason, these three items actually function in a somewhat normal way in the base game. Every other gorge prefab, with a few odd exceptions either crashes the game, spawns a shadow and/or something invisible and solid, some weird sound or lighting effects, or does absolutely nothing.

The pigeon. Prefab name: "quagmire_pigeon". The pigeon seems to have properties of birds in the base game and pigeons in the gorge. Like the base game birds, it will struggle and fly away when dropped, and can be put in a birdcage. It also has examination lines, but instead of separate ones like the regular base game birds, it has the same line for in and out of inventory. The pigeon even has idle and eating animations while in the cage, as well as full functionality of the birdcage. However, it also has characteristics of the Gorge pigeon. The sound it makes is identical to the Gorge ones. It can also be murdered to gain a meat scrap.

The meat scrap: Prefab name: "quagmire_smallmeat". The meat scrap heals 10 hunger and 11 health when eaten, and doesn't affect sanity. It lacks a proper examination line. Can be fed to pigs and traded to the pig king for one gold. Could be fed to a bird in a birdcage for an egg. Rots in 6 days. Can be cooked on a fire to make a cooked meat scrap. Can't be used in a crock pot. The most surprising part is that it has a hunger and health value, considering it was never meant to be eaten by a player. Can be eaten by Wigfrid.

The cooked meat scrap: Prefab name: "quagmire_cookedsmallmeat" It has all the same characteristics and stats as the raw meat scrap, except it's cooked.

The fact that these are possible have interesting implications, especially when it comes to eating them. It could be possible that they were once able to be eaten in earlier alpha version of the Gorge, or that Klei made modifications to these items to be ported into the base game. Also, the fact that the meat scraps rots in 6 days instead of a couple minutes (like in the gorge) is also very interesting.

Other interesting Gorge prefabs:

Old Beefalo: Prefab name: "quagmire_beefalo". Has idle animations, and not invisible. Can be pushed around.

Cooked Foliage: Prefab name: "quagmire_foligage_cooked". Actually visible. Can't be picked up though.

The Gorge: Prefab name: "quagmire". Crashes the game. As expected.

Lamp post: Prefab names: "quagmire_lamp_post" and "quagmire_lamp_short" Creates spots of light.

Here's a picture with the pigeon, meat scraps, and cooked meat scraps.

^Probably what they did.

One thing that would be fun(and annoying) would be if you could send letters to different players. I think it could work.

Fun: If it was the only way of communicating when you are not close. Maybe a "I love you letter"?

Spoiler

Spamming tons of letters to a player

Annoying: Being spammed several letters like in Harry Potter.

One way to make to solve some of the spam is to make it so that you have to train the pigeon or give it an item(that is not stackable) Idk how the training would look like.

I wouldn't read anything into that. Don't Starve uses skeletal animation (Essentially characters are puppets), so by redrawing the parts of a character you get the animations you've made before for free.

I bet they just copy/pasted an existing bird prefab and tweaked it slightly

This is most likely correct. Klei aren't dumb enough to make a whole new birb from scratch when they already have one.
