I think it would be better if we had prices like reach XXXXX Points Without Y and continuously getting harder rather than tournament where someone can steal any position anytime. They have to do better score, no ? If they do better score, they deserve the place, they don't steal it. Or do you mean, in case of tie ? It's not bad, it's simply what a tournament is like. Many people want to be one of the bests, so you have to not only get into the top, but also stay there. But I do agree that it would be nice if we had some special, unique rewards for the most difficult achievements, for example the wet goop dish icon for successfully doing an unsatisfied round or a veggie icon for the no meat run. At now, when you get a ton of xp it doesn't really say what you have done. That 30k could have come from the achievement or some regular runs. But with a special icon that you can get only for that achievement you could show that you did it and you're proud of it. I don't say we need unique icons or other special rewards for achievements. The system if fine as it is, in my opinion, but it still could be better/different (better is quite subjective). Such rewards would be nice and I'm sure many players would be happy about it. And if we will have icons for the best players, why not give icons for other accomplishements too? For me, the balance at the moment is good : i don't feel forced to do specific achievements, because i don't really care about achievements, and i don't feel forced to do tournament. In both cases, it's because there is no big and exclusive reward i would miss if i don't do them. Tournament rewards are just versions of something already existing (according to Klei). But with exclusive rewards related to the most difficult achievement, i would feel forced to do them and frustrated if i can't or can't find a team willing to do them. And i'm not sure it's an healthly feeling to create, quite the contrary. People could aim for achievement if they are happy doing them, people could avoid them if they are too frustrating for them, people could play relaxed and still have all the rewards (except the tournament ones but again, they should be versions of something that already exists). I do appreciate the current balance, and i agree with your second post, "better" in this case is subjective. As my point of view here is too, of course. But for me, playing a game of the Forge, or the Gorge, is already something intense enough : doing some challenges too. I really and strongly appreciate not having a big feeling that i'm missing something other than a line by not doing all of them. Maybe a compromise would be to make achievement more visibles so you can show them ? Like, i don't know : maybe you could pin one achievement on your profile, so you can show the achievement you are the proudest. Especially with the part fo "being forced to do achievements for the rewards", I really don't want that in DST, not even in these time-limited competitive events. My idea was that the "reward" isn't something big or very fancy, it's just the prize for your effort, not your goal. So I imagine that these rewards should be small enough to not be worth it to set it as the only goal of making an achievement. But maybe whatever the rewards were people would push them anyways and my idea is just naive. That's pretty much the essence of competitions. As others stated, you have to not only reach desired position on the tops but also fight to keep it - in this case invest many many hours of highly-efficient game-play knowing very well at any given moment another team/player could take your place. That's the mindset of a winner: skill from practice and availability to invest a lot of time into it (in this case, from what I saw, some top-people tend to play over 200h/2-weeks of this event).
