CreativeBox.exe Posted June 16, 2018 Share Posted June 16, 2018 Hello there, Currently I'm expanding my base, but I'm surrounded by unbreathable gases (predominant hydrogen and chlorine). I searched for ways to get rid of it somehow and then I found out you can cool gases to turn them into a liquid and store them for later use. I'm currently at cycle 6 so is this really a good idea or have you guys better ones? Kiako Posted June 16, 2018 Share Posted June 16, 2018 Hydrogen : use it to power your base (have a look at the research tree). I strongly advise you to link the generatot to an automaton battery. Chlorin : will fall at the bottm of your base, just above the CO2. If you have only a little, it won't matter. Sevio Posted June 16, 2018 Share Posted June 16, 2018 Digging down for more space is a perfectly viable way early on to deal with "bad" gases. There's only as much Chlorine in your base as you dug out from air pockets in the asteroid. But if you dug up some Bleach Stone and stored it in your normal compactors, it will turn itself into Chlorine and that could overwhelm your base early on. Make a compactor in a pool of water and set it to priority 6, storing only Bleach Stone. (and Slime, if you dig any up) Bleach Stone and Slime cannot turn into gas when they're stored underwater. In my current playthrough, I never even made a Carbon Skimmer at all and just kept digging down towards the Oil biome whenever the carbon dioxide was getting too much. Avoid Coal and Natural Gas generators if you go this route though. I was well over cycle 100 before I finally broke into the oil biome and started sending all my excess Co2 there. The wild slicksters there now turn it into oil for me. The trick is to know when it's time to explore and when you need to take advantage of the gains that biome offers. FullMetalArthur Posted June 16, 2018 Share Posted June 16, 2018 In theory is easy to understand ONI, but in practice is a lot tricky. I learned a lot by watching youtubers like CripticFox and Biffa, who are no experts but love the game, and learned a few basic no-so-obvious tricks along the way. Gas management has become easier since now we have the gas element sensor. Instal a pump with that set to Cholrine, natural gas and pump it out. It's simple and may end up taking small pockets of oxygen if you are not carefully where do you put the sensor. About hydrogen is even easier, put vent tiles in your flooring and let the H go up, if you have a decent exygen pressure it will stay above your base without any issue, If you have too much because you have an electrolizer or something that produces it then put an H generator. But as I say, in theory sounds easy, in practice you have to plan ahead, use insulated tiles, build your base so hydrogen dont get trapped on its way up. Good luck, My first 2 colonies never passed cycle 20, and after watching other people play I havent lost a single colony since the automation upgrade. Kabrute Posted June 16, 2018 Share Posted June 16, 2018 As mentioned above, hydrogen is an easy power production method but cycle 6 is too early unless your playing debug/sandbox mode. I recommend sticking to hamster wheels and tiny batteries until half your research tree is complete. I'm writing a new one.
