portalofdoom
Hi. I am from India. I tried Don't Strave Together for the first time today. Well the least ping i get is around 270+ and i also joined a game but there was some delay in my actions. I was wondering if delay doesn't matter in this game as it is not an FPS. And if I should get this? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/91121-does-latency-matter/ Share on other sites
fimmatek
Hi, welcome at the Forums! Latency in DST doesn't matter that much as in some competitive games (like FPSs), but it still can make the game laggy. According to my experiences, a ping of 30-50 is the best, under 160 it's still playable just as good if one gets used to it, but over that till around 250 the game is getting difficult, still playable, but fighting gets hard (kiting is quite useful in this game) and the lag makes the game a bit slower (like it takes longer to pick up stuff from the ground etc). Afaik there are official servers in Singapore which should have better connection, and hosted games in your area can also have a good ping. Also you can play this game alone too, tho that's there are more fun playing it with others. So I would recommend buying this game. Have fun Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/91121-does-latency-matter/#findComment-1038741 Share on other sites
portalofdoom
thanks for the reply. I only played Dont Starve Together for the first time today but I own and have played a few hours Don't Starve. Is Don't Starve Together's single player the same as Don't Starve or is it different? SkyCommision
Yes, high ping is absolutely a problem in Don't Starve Together. In the game, it is essential to manage your time correctly, as well as "kiting" - being able to hit mobs by hitting them with your weapon, and outrunning their attack animation. High ping can mess up your kiting, and force you to tank attacks, even when resources to kite may not be available. The good thing about this is that it's quite easy to set up your own server from the game, by hitting "Host Game" (obviously). And, if you'd like, you can set up your own dedicated server, which can run without you online (but is a bit more of a hassle to set up). Here are some general tips: Whenever you host, it may be a good idea to note in the title of the server that the server is hosted in India. This may prevent language barriers or other players' high ping getting in the way. If you'd like to play on some other servers instead of your own, it may be a good idea to look for words saying that it is an Indian server, or do some research to find groups of Indian servers or Indian players you can play with. Again, this is to prevent language barriers or high ping. Thanks, and good luck! 6 minutes ago, portalofdoom said: thanks for the reply. The core gameplay of Don't Starve with the Reign of Giants DLC is the same as Don' t Starve Together. However, there's a good amount of changes to the game such as a Full Moon Event, changes to characters, Klaus, and seasonal events. I tried to find some other Indian Players but I can't seem to access the forums for Don't Starve Games on Steam, they seem to have been locked or something. Are these changes you talk about that are implemented in "Together" worth enough to purchase the game? I would purchase this game, just only for single player if it has a substantial amount of content different from Don't Starve and its dlcs. CaptainChaotica
1. It DOES have a lot more content. A lot. New resources, new bosses, lots of items, and of course events and skins. And pets. 2. Lag is mainly a problem in combat, as not dodging at the right time can get you killed. :\ You can try to just be near other things that will kill the hounds for you, but that won't always work, especially when you're out exploring... Invest in tooth traps, early and often. Anything that gets rid of enemies FOR you when you can't move well is a good idea. ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/91121-does-latency-matter/#findComment-1038805 Share on other sites

CaptainChaotica
If you mean playing Don't Starve _Together_ by yourself, yes, totally. The regular singleplayer _game_, however, just plain Don't Starve, does NOT have the new content. But, it does have Shipwrecked.
