TheExceed
Hey guys, Looking to collect some tips on what to use geysers for and how to set them up. Hydrogen: This geyser comes out at a whopping 900+F and not sure if it's even worth using. Magma Volc: What other uses is there for magma other than making dirt/sand and petro/NG. Iron Volc: Is using PW to cool the metal still the best way? Unfortunately, this one is 1 tile under a chlorine geyser. Hard to cool down. Thanks for any help ;3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/90745-geyser-tips/ Share on other sites

Most people consider the Hydrogen Geyser a wasted slot on your map. The problem is not only the massive heat output, but also the rather small mass output. You can maybe use the heat by transferring it to chamber of Steam to run a Steam Turbine, but it won't be running all that long despite the massive heat output, because you are still constrained by the limited mass. You also can't rely on this for burning in the Hydrogen Generator, because it just doesn't supply enough fuel. Not to mention you will have to cool it quite a bit before it reaches the Gas Pump, otherwise you're just going to melt it and any non-Abyssalite pipes in the chamber. The Hot Steam Geyser would also qualify for the category of "wasted slot", for all the same reasons. 5 hours ago, TheExceed said: Magma Volc: What other uses is there for magma other than making dirt/sand and petro/NG. Both the Volcano and Minor Volcano are very good sources of heat, which can be used to create very viable Steam Turbine setups that can be counted on for fairly significant periods of time. The heat can also be used to pre-heat or even flash over Boiler setups, both for Crude -> Petro-> NatGas, or for P-H2O -> clean H2O. And depending on how you set up the system, exactly, you can also harvest the Igneous Rock the Magma will cool into for use as Hatch food. Igneous also makes a good material for many applications of the Tempshift Plate, which has a fairly significant resource cost (800 per tile...). Carnis
In my previous seed I made a decision to use every geyser available. Hydrogen is simple: 1) Store the heat in polluted water radiator 2) Delete the heat in sieve or fert synth 3) Draw the gas from the vent at 4200g/tile to avoid overpressure. The heat output of hydrogen vents is actually neglectable, compared to the heat capacity and heat deletion of p-water. Hydrogen vents have a rather poor power output, but if you are like me and have to obsessively use every map resource, then you can get 400-800 Watts and the piped 40-50 degree Celsius hydrogen can still be used to heat stuff, such as pincha peppernut farms. TheExceed
Hmm, I might convert the hydro vent into another Ngas or steam geyser. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/90745-geyser-tips/#findComment-1034765 Share on other sites
