Change storyline for a more generalized approach to ONI

Hi All,

Our current story beginning is that we are all placed in an asteroid. But I dont see how an asteroid in deep space will even have water (in liquid state), let alone crude oil, plants, animals, super high end guns that can paint,build,repair,disinfect,attack etc.

my suggestion is that the story line should be changed: the duplicants had been placed in an unknown micro sized planet with a lot of minerals. Map can be a circular one, but will have hot molten lava at the bottom and some cooler stuff at the top.

map should be similar to that of civilization's , so there'll be no need for advanced calculations to formulate how tiles are positioned in this circular world.

Options here:

Planet types:

a. tidally locked planet: means one half of the planet is burning hot and the other end is freezing cold. Loads of experimentations can be done in this scenario!

b. Ocean planet: surface is water and digging to the top will possibly cause a flood if not properly addressed. 

c. Tundra Planet - ultra cold planet which used to support life (explaining the crude oil etc).

d. Gas Giant with inner solid core

e. Jungle Planet - more critters

f. Asteroid - lol .. same as current but having the circular/oval structure. But will be impacted with other asteroids so will have occasional damages in the outer sides leading to damage to biomes perhaps?

g. etc etc etc

This will open  up a lot of new possibilities like launching a ship to outer space etc, building a teleporter etc etc

It's an interesting idea, and I like it for some parts, but I doubt it'll happen for one reason: Developer time.

Klei has a limited amount of development time before ONI starts to stagnate, and implementing something as neat and complex as a full circle map would be a massive undertaking. On top of that, the added stress on the players computers would likely be unfeasible.

The option for expanded maps for those who CAN handle them would be incredibly nice, would be something added to the world generator options.

True, It'll take developer time. But I dont think it'll take a lot of time. Maybe 1 week tops.

The change I'm suggesting (circular map) is relatively easy to develop and implement.
