rohan177 Posted April 2, 2018 Share Posted April 2, 2018 These are my three creature ideas for the ranching mark II its in the order of what i want least to most.i tried to make sure to be pretty in depth as well as supporting mechanics to make the creatures work well with the ranching upgrade.they are in the order of what i want the least to the most you can tell by the amount detail. i really really want fishes. Be sure to give suggestions to improve these ideas or critique them - BEES - Co the first creature would be bees. there could be bees as creatures that of course work in swarms where attacking one will attract more form their beehive similar DS. this may require flowers to be added to the game as flowers pair with bees. in a room with bees they will take time to create a hive and then one bee will become a queen resting on(to yknow show theirs a queen can also be shown by a slight swaying motion) or in it. worker bees bring pollen from flowers to create honey. colonizing these suckers would require growing flowers which require a small amount of water and fertilizers/dirt(this would give dirt a legit use after meal lice) maybe even light making it difficult to grow as bees only require flowers. although flowers in the wild would barely give pollen because of lack of water and fertilizers also a decor buff. in general are great although flowers grown in the wheeze wort/bristle briar pots don't require anything but give a slightly less decor buff (if its impossible to get more seeds). these are kinda meant to be a challenge to capture. can also be tamed by capturing the hives and killing off the bees.Hives have a maximum of course depending on the size of room and flowers - ELECTRIC CREATURES - Second little electric creatures (this is kinda generic) but well the they basically gnaw at wires to siphon off electricity to consume. Not sure what they would produce Maybe they would produce mass amount of heat making them hard to take care of but will produce a special material which is required for later game use similar to plastic. now how they spawn cant be like regular things like hatches or pufts as without pufts and hatches you can keep playing. But these little electric fur balls will spawn near electric batteries that remain charged for a long time. Although the other require meant would be for the battery to be very hot past the melting point of regular batteries. thus requiring you to use refined materials further assuring the fact that these creatures are later game. Although this concept is tricky as they shouldn't be too hard to discover then their mechanic will be all for nothing. this can be solved by putting the creatures in the dictionary once a certain condition is completed also notifies you that new piece of info is gained. or you know you can make it so that the electric little fur balls are somehow unlocked through a set piece in every seeds giving the chance for more diverse set pieces. they would still need to be groomed but the dupes may need to wear special suits. this idea's purpose is meant to be creatures that posses a challenge to groom and profit off of but provide a high reward. - FISHES - Now for the third creature what i have had time to think about is, fishes where there will at least two species of fishes each requiring their own kind of lures increasing chances. lure ideas could consist simple lures to be crafted out of various materials affecting durability (dunno if you guys want to really touch durability as its harder to automate and require attention the whole time which isn't very fun as i prefer to set up a working system then a system that feels like a chore hence the popularity of conveyor(moving things around with requiring attention and automation (closing and turning off machines based off when i want coal generators to save power). the main thing about lures is of course what you put on them. for lure add-ons i was thinking algae the easiest to create for beginning use. then you could put meal lice on hooks further increasing the chances. Now a special hook idea is balm lilies like the fancy hooks in real life, this will further increase the chances of the first species of fish. and then the second special hook is just a first species fish which is well smaller on a hook allowing you to catch the second species ( which can only be caught this way.) also for the stations i was thinking you just lock and load them with which ever hooks you want to put in them similar to microbe mushers and frying stations. once loaded the fishing station will lower the line reel and wait certain amount of time depending on the lure than then come back up with a fish on its own. this will require power but not a lot only for when it is lowering and reeling. You will have to play around with the number to make things like the meal lice and algae as a fair source of food compared to eating actual meal lice and using algae for mush bars or oxygen. I like the this idea the most as it continues on through the game as a beginning game food source to mid game to late game (i think late game at least). also i think everything should be able to be automated through conveyor belts. but the hooks should need to be crafted. the first species fish could be fed with algae to grow ( very small amounts per fish) and reproduce like rabbits and the second fishes will just hunt the other smaller fishes. the way to discover these fishes is when uncovering buried materials there is a chance for their respective eggs to be dropped ready to hatch once placed in water. to make hatching these eggs easier to control where they hatch to click on the egg and click hatch this will then pull up the unique cursor similar to the move cursor that helps you to decide where to move your dupes. and the fish cursor will only allow you to put the eggs in water on the floor. cant be shallow water duh. Also for feeding the fist species when tamed there could be an underwater little feeder similar to pump where dupes put in algae and fishes come near the stretching feeder to feed on, similar to the pump must be in water to work. also in terms of grooming the dupes can grab brushes from the grooming stations and step a shallow part of water where the water is one block high and when the fish get called and reach the dupe. they will be brushed in the water.
