Removing Items from Food Storage

Recommended Posts

Hey all,
I noticed in the latest build (R1-261452) I can no longer click specific items in my food storage to drop/remove them.
Searching the forums and patch notes, I can't seem to find if this is intended or a bug

I normally use this feature to remove specific high germ ridden food to compost it before my dupes eat it.
It appears the only way to do this now is empty the entire storage container onto the ground.

Anyone familiar with this issue... is it a bug? (As far as I can tell, it came with the ranching upgrade)

@Olimar If you unchecked the item it clears all of that item out of the storage container or fridge. @Shawn.Fmeans when you look in the fridge you can see a list of what's in there and the freshness/germ content. You use to be able to just select one of those items and it would bring up another box so you could individually manage it. Therefore only removing the so many g of stale/germy food instead of all of the food of that type regardless of freshness or germs.

@Whispert @cremisi Have the correct idea.

You used to be able to click individual items in storage, they would then drop out onto the ground without dupe interaction.
I normally used this to drop food items out (that were high in germ count) and then assign a dupe to come compost said items.

It seems the only way to get items out now is by un-checking them from the storage list, but as mentioned by the others... that drops all of that item  type out and also seems to combine them. (making it difficult to isolate say 1 liceloaf, versus them all).

@Olimar Something seems to have definitely changed. I'm not sure if it was intended... but it seems you can't unload/drop specific items from storage by clicking on them anymore. Seems to be in effect as of the ranching upgrade.

Maybe to prevent using storage compactors as manual versions of the animal feeder?

I think its clearly obvious that feeders are meant to be part of an automated system, with sweepers, conveyors and whatnot. Either way, the storage capacity of the feeders could be the same as a compactor, but i wouldnt want to tie dupes to constantly refilling those things. The game itself pushes towards gaining game experience, tying lose ends together and do things as efficiently as possible. Its a bit geeky, but by not being obvious promotes creativity, which is great. Lots of content when creativity is a thing :)

It's likely a bug, but you can still select them - the "button" area is extremely thin (maybe 1-2 pixels) at the top of the line. Point the mouse at the very top where you almost point at the line above, and you'll be able to click-select it.

I don't think it was a necessary mechanic for storage compactors, but it was helpful for a fridge to remove pieces of food that had food poisoning and keep dupes from eating it. I agree that it should be reported as a bug.

@Kasuha thanks I'll try that tonight when I get home to see if it works for me.
