Lifegrow
Please see the below thread, I'd love some input from other fellow forum users to see if this is just me being a miserable old sod, or not Getting incredibly tired with the massive influx of useless spam posters, so I added a request in the forums upgrade section : Go and have your say if you agree/disagree there please. -Life.x Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/87633-vote-the-amount-of-spam-forum-suggestion/ Share on other sites
TheOlz
Let's just start reporting the posts with a comment about them being either spam, blogposts, etc. Hopefully it will encourage a bit more moderation on these forums. Using a reddit like upvote or downvote is open to it's own form of exploitation. TheOlz
Just another idea that occurred to me on this topic, maybe some active moderation from some frequent (daily) users would be a good idea. Especially someone who can be slightly heavy handed on locking older topics relating to things that are no longer applicable, or relate to bugs already fixed or reported. For questions that have already been addressed a bunch of times, maybe a topic lock with a redirect to an existing post. idk, just ideas that might work differently to the reddit style system. All in all tho, Life, I totally agree. I just think it's a lack of active moderation that is the problem. It has one of the best communitys, i ever found. So many years, i hunted for love and recognition. I feeled like on a small rift, filled with love, cruising through dark waters, an ocean filled with bad stuff (bitcoin for example). After i stranded and even some more years later, after the rescue (by an attackhelicopter), i found an article about ONI in a game magazine. You know, a basic paperpress gamemagazin bought in the "Weserpark" at "Tuttis Papiermühle" for 2,70€ and i never regretted it!After i bought that game, it was a short trip to the forum (i clicked the "forum" button in gamemenue) and i entered it as fresh meat. Everywhere love and fun and the experienced exploitusers, teached me to play cheaty quick. I asked questions, asked a dazillion times before and i got everytime helpfull and friendly stuff back. (Most new users do that, before they get experienced most!)I try always to be friendly and helpfull. I believe not in karma, i do it with free will (my own). "Spam" is art sometimes and we had a time, some years ago in germany, where ppl hated specific art (sometimes they burned the artists, together with the art! They had no forums or subways then) While i added some years on my clock, i found three rules of life and forums: 1.When humans interact kindly, spam can not hurt them! 2. When humans are to lazy to repeat same answer for a dazillion times, they are lazy. 3.When humans are well balanced, they act kindly. 4. No more rules I hope that this helps you a lot Sir. eloy2030
Excellent idea, and then, when all is up and running let's make it so only "better" of us can post in the forums... AT ALL! Edit: I was wondering, does this count as spam? XD Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/87633-vote-the-amount-of-spam-forum-suggestion/#findComment-1004548 Share on other sites

The idea of having an upvoting or downvoting thing isn't to promote elitism, it's so that the community AS A WHOLE can have their say - and if something useful comes along it can not fade away into obscurity. I.e. PVD's ancient thread on bridges/mechanical filters (one of the most useful and probably my most referenced threads on here) : or this one on automation, again incredibly useful for people learning the automation side of the game - I reference this frequently... : Try and find these threads with a google search, or even a forum search without hitting the correct keywords, and you'll struggle as a new user to the forums. Zarquan
I don't think spam is the problem. Forums are busy places where everyone can talk if they follow the rules, and I don't see very much abuse of that privilege. I see very few useless posts. The fact that there are so many duplicates is a symptom of the problem you are identifying. People can't find the answer to their question, so they ask it again. It may seem useless to you, but it is how newer users find things out in the game. It is a self-perpetuating problem to a certain extent. The larger problem is the fact that people aren't using the tag mechanic. If all of the threads made to teach were given the tag "tutorial" or "ONI Tutorial" (because the tags cover the whole forum), I think they would be much easier to find. Until they create more forum sections so that we can organize these posts better, we should use tags to group our stuff in the General Discussions forum. For example, custom maps would be easier to find if they were tagged "ONI Custom Map", perhaps with the applicable patch, like "Occupation Update." I propose that tutorial makers and custom map designers and challenge masochists all agree on a tag for their group to help organize the forum. This would, of course, be non-binding, but there is nothing to lose as far as I can tell. If you don't put the tag on, your post just won't be found as easily, but it will still appear on the forum. BUT this kind of thinking makes newbs, noobs, newcomers, etc.. fell like they are speaking out of term. AND, while this might, "sometimes", be the case, I feel like that's exactly what keeps the forums, and the game as a whole, alive. Is better for people to do **** and make mistakes than to not do anything of fear they might disappoint somebody. In this case, posting the same thing again and again... Ichikai
I feel like there is a lack of specific categories. I mean, basically there's general discussion and suggestion/feedback for people to post stuff in. No help section where people can keep asking the same questions over and over, or a guide section where useful posts and such like the ones you mentioned can be pinned or just sit without getting swamped by other stuff. Maybe it's just ONI's popularity that's growing and thus attracting more posters creating the perceived spam, while before these threads were less ubiquitous.
