Are Dupes still supposed to prioritize their jobs?

Recommended Posts

I just started playing the Occupational Update today and Im constantly running into this thing where dupes dont prioritize the job they have. My knowledge of this update is based purely off the first livestream the devs did where they showcased the gameplay for the update. I went dark on others playing the game after that because I wanted this to be as fresh as possible when I started but Im noticing a lot of differences have been made since then and now. Im guessing they got a lot of feedback from the Preview Build players as I dont even see the new priority system in place anymore (1-6 and Star Priority). But one thing I remember them mentioning was that a dupe will prioritize his job above all else if need be. For some reason some my dupes do everything but their job. In the picture below you see that my Research Assistant just finished building some batteries while my Chef does the research. I let my dupes be to see if she would eventually go to it but she has not once touched the Research Station and Im not sure why.

Not a big deal, and I dont think its a bug. Im just wondering if they still have that prioritizing their job thing in place.

In short, no. The task toggle still dictates what dupes do.

Read patch notes and stuff to get the whole story of implementation and reversion, if you are interested.

I did, I saw the notes where 1-9 was put back in but nothing about reversing the decision where dupes wont prioritize their Job task over others if the priority is set the same.

  • Removed Job-related subpriorities altogether, due to further knock-ons and hard-to-discern dupe behaviour

They will favor the job they are in ( see tool tip on what task is associated with it ). They will still be able to perform with their acquired skill afterwards.

I've found it hard to get a former cook to use the grill, so I've upped it's priority so it surpasses the priority of the job he's currently in.

You need to micromanage the allowed jobs (the menu that pops up from below in the Jobs screen) so your Dupes work correctly. For instance, it is important to tell the Miner-Dupe to not sweep stuff from the ground otherwise it will constantly backtrack.

You also need to forbid specific jobs like harvesting, building, research, art etc. to all Dupes which automatically only allows Dupes with the corresponding profession to work these jobs.

Lastly you have to set priorities right. Your farms should be above sweeping tasks, otherwise your farmer will rather sweep the floor than harvest the plants.

It's pretty much still the old system only more complicated because of the specialized Dupes.
