Just found something weird [steam]

So in march 2017 my friend bought and gifted me Don't Starve Together.

I accepted his gift and played with him, now i have 42 hours on Steam.

Just found out that in my steam inventory I still have DST gift.

He bought only one so if I gift it to someone will I lose the game or what?

When someone buys DST, they get an extra copy that they can send to a friend. 

Now the question is: did your friend buy the game for themselves and sent their 2nd copy to you, or did they already have DST and bought the game for you? Because in that latter case, you do should have a second copy, which you can send to another friend and you'll still be able to play further. 

If you had only one copy of DST (the one that you're playing), it shouldn't show up in your steam inventory.

Since he bought the game for you, and didn't give you his gift version, you should've also gotten the gift.

My friend buyed the game for himself long ago, then he buyed one for me and he send it to me.

The only thing you can do with it now is gift it to a friend by Valentines Day, bond over all the near death experiences, have some wholesome nerd fun and fall in love with each other.

(Also you won't lose your game.)

Yeah, any purchases of DST give you an extra copy to give to someone. If the full purchase is gifted to someone, they obtain the extra copy aswell as the game.
