I love the automation update.  One thing that would be really powerfull and relativly simple to add would be gas pipe sensor and liquid pipe sensor. basically similar in function as atmo or hydro sensor but working in pipes.

currently i can use automation to control output( gas/liquid valve) but have no input from pipes

usecases:

1.use the sensor to indicate liquid, gas overflow(e.g. in toilet, shower circuit)- and use the signal with some logic to dump the overflow or disable the producer to optimize resources

2. to indicate liquid, gas underflow- would allow to disable some systems until more resources is available

Everything flows through the first white it hits, thus the bridge is the exit, everything goes across it, if it doesn't work it overflows to the vent.... works with liquids too

sure. this works and is simple. however seems like a dirty solution, counting on particular quirks of gas/liquid transfer.

those 2 examples were to ilustrate some simple uses.

what it would be really for is it would allow for much more complex piping systems. currently you have to have multiple piping systems in parallel that need to go to similar parts of a colony. what you could do with the pipe sensor is to join them and for example create shared transfer piping across the colony that would work in batches or mixed and separated later if it would be needed. point is it would allow for inclusion of more logic into piping systems, which i think would be a good thing.

and just to reiterate - generally seems like good idea to have both information inputs (sensors) and information outputs (automated valves).

just to trail a bit - same would go for electric wires where we already have automated switches, but without sensor cant really tell automatically how much power is used and if maybe some backup generator should come online. things like that.

what do you think?

That is just how they work / are implemented. This will most probably not change similary you can assume that on junction gasses and liquids will split one packet to each end and then again (round robin - ideally everyone gets same portion). I dont see the advantage in this other than make people not have to thing when playing. Ohnestly i dont like it

How does that pipe setup detect underflow?  If there is very little or no liquid/gas in the pipe?  Also, if there is overflow in any system other than a bathroom, you might want to turn the pump off, but you can't because there is no automation option.
