Building Diagonally

I have been testing when dupes will build something diagonally through a tile and these are my findings.

For some reason the only time dupes will build diagonally is if they are three tiles diagonally above the building they want to build (Dupes can always build tiles diagonally).

from the bottom bump him closer, they can build through if they just barely have head room.  The only thing I have found dupes can't build diagonal through things consistently is vents
