Mjello Posted October 27, 2017 Share Posted October 27, 2017 The audio on the gas generators, industry machinery is stressfull and not nice to listen too. Don't get me wrong. They are well made and detailed. But I find myself to be annoyed by it a lot. If I hover around the industry section in my base for too long I find myself wanting to stop playing the game because the audio annoys me. In earlier versions the audio was nice, relaxing and created a good relaxing atmosphere that made me enjoy playing the game very much. this is lost to me now unless I stay around the comfy bed section in my base. Now I know industriel sounds is exactly like that, but maybe they should not be like that in the game? Keeping it sounding relaxing and pleasant is definitely the intention, so thanks for letting me know that you lost that feeling! I will take a look at the industrial buildings we added in the Oil Upgrade to see which parts I can make sound less stressful. I know the engine revving up and down on the Petroleum Generator could definitely feel stressful, but I'll see what else I can smooth out. Are there any other buildings in particular that stress you out? Thanks again! Sound feedback comes in pretty rarely and it's suuuuuuper valuable to me, so again thanks for posting. Feel free to do so again whenever you have sound thoughts! I will listen again and think on the individual buildings. But It is more the combination of many sounds at once that is annoying. It becomes a cacophony of noice blending with eachother. I will upload a save later. I've done a pass on all of the problematic buildings in this setup... that was indeed a stressful sounding area! The natural gas generators were definitely the main issue, like you said, but there were definitely other issues. I'm going to take another look at this first thing in the morning tomorrow but in the meantime, here're a few things I did just from your base: Fertilizer Maker: part of the system for turning down buildings when multiple are in the same place wasn't working for Fertilizer Maker, but works now. Hydrogen Generator: a bit less consistently loud at Speed 1, much less consistently noisy at Speed 3 Electrical Sparking: a bit more stringent about how many sparks it will let play at once, and are also made less consistently loud at all speeds. Spark playback is a bit more elegant across all buildings. Methane Generator: wheezing is less consistently loud at all speeds, wheezing is turned down in general to let the more fun "BONK" take center stage. Spurting is less consistently loud at all speeds. High Pressure Gas Vent playback is a bit more elegant, less loud as it stays on for longer periods of time Power Transformer is less consistently loud at all speeds Hydrogen Generator's sloshing is less consistently loud at all speeds It's already sounding noticeably smoother to me... not quite there yet for how I'd want it to sound upon release, but closer. I'll letcha know tomorrow if I fix anything else from your base. Again, I appreciate the save - it was ridiculously helpful. Feel free to send any bases over that you feel are stressful, any time! On a fair camera focus on them, we maybe could hear them either whistle or sing a little tune assuming they are happy, or at the contrary, to whine, sob, grumble would he/she be on the verge of collapsing mentally... That could definitely help to use ears more than eyes to manage to whole base. BlueLance Posted November 8, 2017 Share Posted November 8, 2017 If we are going with audio feedback I would like the option to disable the new noise that switches make, I have 4 atmo-switches near each other and they go off at different times, but it sounds like I am listening to a disorganised orchestra, The old noise from them was fine because it was not loud or noticeable and the gas pumps they are connected to hardly make any noise so they are fine as is, they are rather quiet and non intrusive.
