First off I have to say.. I love this game.. so far at like 600 hours.

I am a computer engineer that has been playing games all my life.. so this game entices my engineering side along with my gaming side and I thought of a few ideas..

 

1. Vines

I would love to see if you place a ladder and water (then plant a seed) a vine will climb up the length of the ladder and grows with time.

 - The rate of how it grows be depending on how deep the water is (with a max cap depending on this depth)

- This would make the ladder unclimbable (so you need a side ladder)

There is a few ideas on what this vine like thing produces.. fruit every so often on one of the rungs? maybe..

But I think it would be more fun to be able to chop off the top part or a branch for a new material of plant matter.. AKA wood of some sort

Now there is a new material.. you can make wooden beds, Ladders for some kind of bonus (Decor? heat resistance? ect)

you could also make it weak to water (so if wet it gets damaged)

 

2. Bug Nests

I kind of miss combat in this game.  When I started I fought every hatch I saw.  Now I domesticate them

but what if there was a nest (like a geyser) that constantly generated a ant type creature (if it is dead) so lets say 3 per nest.  If less than 3 are present one spawns.

So you need combat to fight these.. so you will not unlock the area they are in until you have enough dupes and med bays to deal with it.

This will give you a supply of meat and maybe other resources.. (Mucus? Webbing from a spider like version)

These insects can also poison that instantly give them the poison 'germ' using the germ system.

 

3. More useful creatures.

One of my older ideas was when I saw hatch constantly walking around for food..

maybe make a Pen for a hatch that has a treadmill.. you feed in sandstone or something else you have lots of and at night.. it will run in the hamster wheel like thing to get the food.. so this will not change the amount of coal the hatchs produce (except it sleeps during the day).. but since it is heaver than a dupe (it eats like 450 kg a food a day) it has more strength than a normal runner so produces more than the 400..

 

maybe some kind of room/building can be made for both the pufts and morbs.. (even combine the building/buildings)

 

4. Alien Tech...

with all the computers and ruins we find.. make a separate tech tree that you need the relic cpu to research.

 

5. Passive Trader

Kind of like the pig king from don't starve..

Once to find him.. there is a list of things he wants..

IE .. 100 of meal lice gives you "this' , 50 Blossoms to give you 'this', 20k obsidian.. ect

This can give you mineral X or something that can NOT be found by digging..  This gives a reason to grow blossoms (I never do because they cost soooo much to make)..

 

I have other ideas.. but these are my top 5... I would love to hear your feedback..

Also thought of something the research can be..
better Drill, dig two spaces at once (maybe with digging penalty)

Construction tool that lets you build 1 more space away.

Farming tool that harvests and collects food in one go (maybe even teleports to the fridge)

I am sure there are many more things we can think of

these are addons like clothing.. so one per dupe.. (gives even more reason to have a dupe specialize)

It would be cool to see faster digging. Maybe make an upgrade were two can dig the same block that way if you are only digging 2 block high they could get 4 guys on the job.
