GreatGameDota
I think Klei will try and make everything very realistic, all machines and resources are real (except for balancing). Cilya
There is no real pressure mechanics implemented. The simulation tends to equilibrate mass inside gas/liquid cells instead of equilibrating pressure. There is no temperature variation due to pressure changes and the boiling or freezing point doesn't seem to change with pressure. I would say that it is unlikely they will implement a more realistic thermodynamic model. Sevio
The point isn't so much about making realistic thermodynamics such as pistons causing increased temperature. It's about adding the building blocks to make our own electronic control systems. Think electronic signals, inverters, repeaters, some basic logic gates and some more sensors such as a battery charge sensor. And actors that can work on electronic signals. Valves controllable (on/off) by electronic signal, doors open/close based on signal. If it's going to be a separate wiring/control system from regular power wires, the current pressure and temperature switches would fit better with the electronic signal system as well. Cilya
On 04/10/2017 at 8:20 PM, Sevio said: some basic logic gates You can already have AND and OR gates, and since all input signals are invertible, you can do any logic combination of signals if the signals are only used once. But I agree, you can't build electrical memory or switches (transistors) so it's pretty limited. Those can be done with the physics, but its very slow and unpractical. stgo
At the very minimum I would like to get Schmitt trigger (so that pump starts pumping when pressure above a threshold and stops once we are below another) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/82632-please-add-something-like-redstone/#findComment-962463 Share on other sites
Cilya
You can do that with two hydro switches in series. I used this to control the water lever around a tepidizer. If you compare it to minecraft: redstone have never been very practical, you always have to make your way around using the basic mechanics it provides. Sevio
Redstone is a lot more practical for building logic systems than what we have now in ONI. The things you mentioned that require physics in ONI can be built in minecraft with pure redstone, making them much faster. Larger systems take up a lot of space but you have a 3d world whereas in ONI you don't, so that's why I'm suggesting a layer for logic systems separate from the power network, as power networking can already get clunky with the circuit requirements. With a separate layer, not only can non-power consuming buildings become togglable but many buildings can also become signal providers based on their status. Compactors and food containers could signal their fullness, doors could signal when they're open/closed acting as a detector for duplicant activity, valves could not only be toggled but also detect whether the pipe is empty or full. Just a few more ideas for what could be in a future "Redstone update" Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/82632-please-add-something-like-redstone/#findComment-962655 Share on other sites
Cilya
Ok, I understand what you mean. I've seen such a logic layer in Factorio, which actually use two (interacting) layers (green and red) of logical information flow.
