Med cot suggestions

Recommended Posts

So while playing this and running out of food, I keep having to assign med cots to my dups.  I get it's a game mechanic, but this one doesn't make sense, I mean Sure the assigning of beds does, but this one really makes my other dups seem heartless.   There is clearly a dup on the floor calling out for help, yet the won't try to help them, unless they are assigned to a med cot.  It's like they say "Sorry, you don't have insurance, I can't help you" and walk away.  Rather then me having to build each dup a bed and a med cot, why can't the med cots be auto assigned, so when one falls ill, the others can just take them to the nearest med cot?  They get upset when Dups die, why would they not "care" if someone was hurt and needing help.

Some other things that don't make sense with med cots:  Randomness of weather or not the Dup will get up to use the bathroom, or not sufficate in low oxygen situations.   Sometimes they will get up and use the bathroom correctly, other times they won't and just mess themselves once they stand up.   Also when running out of oxygen, sometimes they will get up and go take a few breaths, and other times they will just stay in bed and die if you don't get to them quick enough.  Sure this could be how badly wounded they are, but if this is a futuristic med cot, should they not have oxygen, and a bed pan at least?

I've also noticed that the majority of Dups that use med cots will unassigned themselves once they are done.  Then there are some that do not.  I can only assume that the ones that do not are the ones that don't get up to breath, and once they get up the start working on other things, even though they are not fully healed.

These are just some thoughts I've had while playing the game.

Interesting ideas.  I one time had a dupe start starving, due to bad food assignments, and it really annoyed me that when he collapsed the only way to remedy the situation seemed to be to assign him to the med cot, and then once he was well enough, if he did not go and immediately eat food (for instance because he wanted to use the bathroom first) he would collapse again and have to be re-cotted.  For god sake, could some other dupe just bring him food?  Can incapacitated starving dupes just generate 'bring me food' jobs?  Provided they are assigned an available food of course?

The notion of a convalesced dupe generating 'bedpan' waste is also interesting.  now you're not only got a dupe not doing work, but he's making *other* dupes empty his bedpan.  Could be expanded to food and maybe oxygen as well.  Would make dupes in medical cots a bigger burden.  Right now it seems like they're more an inconvenience.
