Simple tile vs insulated tile (abyssalite)

Recommended Posts

Simple tile=200kg abyssalite

Insulated tile=400kg abyssalite

Same thermal conductivity. Both can do the same task - insulating a room.

Tile gives +5 decor, insulated tile -5 decor.

Why should i use abyssalite insulated tile over the first one, or insulated tile made of any mineral?

The details tab shows thermal conductivity of the material from which the thing is built, not thermal conductivity of the result. That's why they show the same number.

There's no reason to build insulated tiles out of abyssalite unless you're considering effects on 1000+ cycle scale.

But when you need to insulate something, most of the time insulated tile from other material does the job well and there's no need to spend abyssalite on it.

Honestly, there's so much abyssalite on the map that I don't even bother making insulated tiles/pipes anymore.  The current base I have going I haven't built a single one.  My geyser tank has an outer layer of it, my liquid pipes are nearly all made of it.  The outer wall of the center of the base, my cold water tank, my work-in-progress puff pen, air-filtration/production/hydrogen storage room.  All pretty much made of regular abyssalite tiles.  About the only thing I haven't really bothered to make out of the stuff is gas pipes.  And, even though I've checked regularly, I've never seem a single tile of the stuff change even a 0.1 degree in temperature.  Even that outer wall of my geyser tank is still the same 15 degrees as when I originally put it in sub 50 cycles.  The inner granite tiles of the geyser tank quickly rose to 50+ degrees and have stayed there.

I still have 82,988 Kgs of the stuff ;)

I'm on cycle 1600ish. The insulated materials are actually quite useful for me here and there. There are a lot of places where I am channeling geyser water and don't want it to heat the whole base. I have a huge and VERY hot water tank up at the top of my base and make the pipes out of it. Elsewhere I leave the abyssalite in place and take advantage of it to contain hot  and cold zones.
