Question about the game maps and Neutronium...

Recommended Posts

So... I've discovered to my great despair that the maps actually have a border of Neutronium, which is impenetrable.  Now this actually brings me to the most important question(s)...

Will all generated maps eventually have an infinite span in terms if size in future updates?  Or are they all going to mimic/simulate the size of celestial bodies with outer space outside?  Or are the maps destined to remain boxed in and limited via Neutronium?

Ah, excellent!  I'll definitely check the tool out and give it a try.

I do understand that the game is in Alpha stages... maybe it is limited because of that reason.  I'll definitely cross my fingers and hope it will be infinite in some creative manner.

Much appreciated for the reply!

I seriously doubt it. The game runs "gas and liquid physics" in all of the area you discovered, so if you leave a geyser open somewhere, it will keep flooding and warming up its surroundings even when you're not looking. Potentially infinite map would require the simulation to run on potentially infinite area, and that would also require potentially infinite CPU power.

An external void environment might work outside the neutronium layer. Anything not tightly air locked is obliterated in to deep space.

You could extend the end game to creating a habitat on the surface of the asteroid. Although you would probably need another limit on the amount of void space a player can build in or it becomes infinite again. Maybe a deadly radiation barrier marking the outer edges of the map some reasonable number of tiles in either direction from the neutronium barrier.
