add a general setting for all storage

Recommended Posts

I posted something similar to this but your idea did give me a vision of how it could work better. So in a similar way that we have, apologies for this rough mockup but it's an example of how the storage system could be made to be more efficient.

So basically I'd start with condensing the size of the upper-right bar to put the name of each process above the icon so that you can add more there later on if you wanted to while also adding in "Storage" as a new option.

When you click on storage you can take or leave the max amount of container next to the Storage name I understand that might be redundant and unnecessary but I do believe the next options will prove to be useful.

You have the ability to create container rules, delete a container you made and to copy container rules onto another "blueprint" to alter as needed.

From there when you click Create Container Rules, it will prompt the same Element Filter that is currently in the game however with 1 additional Rule, checkmark to automatically add in new element or not. If it's check off, then when you discover Coal for the first time it won't automatically add it to your premade filters, if you don't have it set then it will, but you could also make this a container system that is universal and can be used between saves.

From there, when you click on one of the premade container filters it will visualize the information in two ways, Containers using those rules will be highlighted so you can easily identify which containers have been set to only holding those specific materials and on the right it will show the rules of what those container are  allowed to hold.

From there, at the bottom you could have the option to "Select Containers" which would alter your interaction with object to be able to hold click and drag to select a wide variety of containers to "Set" as a certain container rule or maybe shift+click if it's capable to code to select one at a time without losing the ones you already selected. Or to make it easier, just have a "Select" and "De-select" option so if you select the wrong container you can just selecte "De-select" and remove it.

So after you Selected the containers you want you use the drop down menu(If it's possible to use drop down if not then perhaps just have it saved one under the other and select the container from the list that you want those containers set to. From there you finally select "Set Rules" and if you selected a container that had another rule set on it already it will warn you that you are changing the rule of X container and to confirm change.

I hope this made sense, it's just a mockup of an idea but I do feel it would help alleviate the tedium and outright evasion of setting element filters because while I might want to reduce polluted oxygen elements from being put into certain containers, I throw my hands up in the air and give up because of how tedious it is to currently make sure that my Dupes don't automatically put certain elements into the wrong container because of how cumber-stone the current filter process feels.

Proposition: CTRL+CLICK on desired compactor list item = "dont store it anywhere else". You may do it in as many chests as You like to have multiple polluted dirt chests if You want outside Your base, and not one ever inside.

Example: You just find a slime, and don't want to store it in all Your chests, or deselect it in all chests - just build new chest, ctrl+click slime and that's it...

Create a storage overlay that when in use highlights your compactors on screen. Click which ones you want to modify or drag and select everything. Then the menu would be similar to the individual menu and you could make your change there and it would apply to any highlighted compactors..
