Feature Request: Debug Mode - Add buildings

Recommended Posts

I did a quick search for "debug buildings" and didn't find anything, so I hope this hasn't been requested before.

Whether a separate debug menu, or via a tiered debug menu, I think it'd be great to see buildings / other things added to the debug menu. This would allow for adding things like geysers or setting up a room with batteries and cabling / gas pumping systems without having to spend a few in-game days to test something. I'd like to think of it as a more complete debug menu.

Of course, this would be lower priority than bugs and content (Thermal Update is great - added a lot to play with).

Good point. I didn't know about the other debug controls in Escape Menu > Controls > Debug. All this time I've just been using the Backspace key and working with different ores, gasses, and liquids.

I withdraw my request for Buildings being added.

Entities would still be nice (geysers, plants, creatures). Is there already some kind of menu for them? I did find the add duplicant function.

Understandable the devs probably want to keep an eye on mod menus since they're looking for problems and issues you might run across during normal play with normally generated maps, but where there is a will, there will be a mod, so I imagine it will all come to pass eventually.

Debug allows an option to build anything instantly, regardless of available resources. The main tool is the Cell Painter, but it appears a lot of the options aren't available or fully implemented in there. Allowing to spawn certain plants or entities (creatures), would be fantastic for testing features and techniques.

Yeah - or build death traps and put food, toilets, and beds on the other side of the map and see if your duplicants can reach them.... I mean yeah, testing features and techniques.... :)

Considering the dupes can only climb 2 high, and only jump across a single blank space.. it's pretty easy to determine whether or not they could reach something. :p
