Chaquinn
So I just got this game yesterday and its really fun. But also really hard... My colonies usually do fine but they always end in the same way. I run out of algae, tons of unbreathable gasses build up, people get stressed, everything falls apart. My current colony is on cycle 46 (the highest i've ever gotten) and im having the same problem. I've mined all the algae in the normal area, and i have 3 biodistillers going, but its just not enough. I'm completely out of algae and carbon dioxide and contaminated oxygen is flooding in. I also have no idea where the contaminated oxygen is coming from, since i have all contaminated areas airlocked off with deoderizers. Any tips on keeping a steady algae supply? simonex93
which of your buildings use algae? also slime produce cont co2 even in the storage Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/76101-sustaining-algae/#findComment-884034 Share on other sites
Chaquinn
The only buildings that use algae are 2 deoxidizers and a couple terrariums Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/76101-sustaining-algae/#findComment-884043 Share on other sites
D7X
Move away from algae as soon as you can, it's not a very easy way to maintain oxygen production after the first 50 or so cycles. Start using electrolyzers to make O2 from water and reduce your water consumption by eating foods made by plants. You can use a CO2 scrubber to remove CO2 (and clean the dirty water with the purifier) instead of the terrariums too (since they use water) and it's not a great source of power but a hydrogen generator can be used to remove the hydrogen. Without getting into the more technical methods of producing oxygen and removing unwanted gases currently sand and water are the resources you can stretch the furthest until things start to collapse. Thanks for the tips, I'll try and follow that next colony. 45 minutes ago, simonex93 said: which of your buildings use algae? also slime produce cont co2 even in the storage Yep, i found the source of the contamination. One of my main storage compactors had slime. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/76101-sustaining-algae/#findComment-884058 Share on other sites

A little bit of a spoiler here, but since you seem to have trouble with that, it will serve as a tip: explore, try to uncover all the asteroid, for me its the funniest part. Look up for the "purple biomes" those have copious quantities of algae. Also "green biomes" have lots of slime and some algae too. Hoard them like a mad man. Spoiler For distilling slime I use 10 distilleries coupled with 3 duplicants running 24/7 or 2 coal generators if you can manage their CO2 output properly. Spoiler The compactors above the distilleries are full of slime This way I easily made up to cycle 616 (the number of the beast!) before I abandoned this colony as it won't work with the thermal upgrade preview. Zozzero
I made it to Cycle 102 with team of 8 guys (actually 6... a miner trapped himself, and a runner couldnt set path between ladder areas and suffocated running left and right), built beds relatively at high point, and 1 deoxydizer is completely enough for them. Had to plant 2 algea terrarium as progressed, but constantly branching out as Octyabr said, will get you to find plenty if algea, and yeah, collect it as mad man My only deoxy worked all 102 cycle long. Also make a vertical colony, this way a few Deodorizer can keep up filtering the gas, place manual doors to areas to keep toxic areas in colony at bay (like Outhouse), and have a separate pool for refined water. Usually 1 purifier makes enough to supply the colony, and extra makes surplus. Works like a charm. Sometimes(!!!) I had to switch on CO2 filter. But till that time the above was sufficient.
