kessusagi
I think adding plants that consumes CO2 and releases O2 would be an interesting way to balance the lack of oxygen production. Even if the plant was rare and/or hard to maintain like it needs the right temperature to produce oxygen. From what I have noticed all the plants use oxygen and release CO2 which feels kind of counterintuitive to having a garden that resulted in me killing my dupes. Does anyone else feel the same way because I understand that resources should be limited but with oxygen it feels weird that the plants consume it and the description of the plants don't say it consumes oxygen. I am interested to hear what other people think on this matter.
Czeraphine
The closest thing we have to that is the algae terrarium. However, I do admit that the plants consuming oxygen makes no sense. Maybe it does for meal wood because of the maggots.. but their oxygen consumption rate is pretty high.
TheBlackDragon4
real life trees breath Co2 and give oxygen in return, maybe the plants can do the same
littled3mon
I have thought this a cool idea myself. though if these changes were going to be made I feel that you would also need to change it so that the plants require water to grow. you could also make it so they get a growth boost from a light source like algae gets. irOninfernO
i second this suggestion because like jjcm04 said it!
GetOutofMe
trees would be a good way of balancing that make them take a large amount of space require little to no water maybe feed it liquid phosphate or propane to make it late game but having a 1:1 ratio on Co2 to o2 with the carbon being converted into wood that u could burn for energy or into a gas so u can solidify it into coal (maybe some weird alien tree that grows 20 blocks tall and 3-5 wide looking like a moss pole)u would need 1fully grown tree for every 2 duplicants with diver's lung and need to maintain it by hedge trimming? meaning u need ladders on both sides the carbon would eventually build up meaning u need to hop it down ,when maxed out it guarantees 2 seeds quite thought out making this balanced also conserving mass,Devs i hope u see this
rexthegamer2000
Plants also take in oxygen for respiration. So even though they'd produce it, the overall balance shouldn't change as they'd produce and then take it back in for photosynthesis

Also this is a game, so the most mast produced plants should definitely produce oxygen while consuming CO^2, The better the plant the harder it should be to maintain so you'd eventually need to produce a lot of CO^2 for them to live. But the game is in alpha so I'd love to see what they do with it. It's just right now Gas processing is bad for a game titled after it.
Algaernon
Be careful what you wish for! I think currently the Mealwood plant only checks for temperature and gas pressure. If it needed carbon dioxide to live then I couldn't have my farm up in my hydrogen-filled attic. Also, chlorine gas should kill plants dead. I think it is enough that we have algae terrariums producing oxygen.
Kruleworld
the algae terrariums also need a watering system/sprinkler so they aren't spending all day ferrying water
