Tile construction materials

Has anybody noticed a difference in the way tiles perform based on the materials you use to build them?  For instance, if I want to build a water tank ... would it be able to support greater water pressures if I use granite over sandstone?

I think right now any material you use to make your tiles, will react the same way with water

After conducting an unscientific experiment, it appears that tiles made from granite are more durable than that of sandstone.  Here's how I came to that conclusion.

I built two tanks of equal dimensions, with the inside capacity having an area of 6 tiles wide x 8 tiles tall.  One tank had walls built completely from granite, and the other had walls built completely from sandstone.  Each tank had equal lengths of pipe leading from the water pump to the outlet.  A valve was placed 5 lengths of pipe before the drainage to control the flow of water at 5kg/s for both tanks.  Both water pumps were disabled until construction of both tanks was complete, plumbing and all.  Before the pumps were activated to begin the experiment, I disabled all power throughout the colony to ensure that both pumps would begin at the same time.

During this experiment, no water was used for any other purpose.

The entire experiment took 31 cycles to complete, from cycle 14 to cycle 45.

Cycle 14 - Begin of experiment, activated water pumps and colony power.

Cycle 27 - I needed to connect a pump from a second water source to lead into the Sandstone Tank.  The water was not needed until cycle 31, when Sandstone Tank pump 2 took over and allowed water to flow without interruption.

Cycle 36 - Pool leading to Granite Tank depleted.  Experiment much less scientific from here on out.

Cycle 37 - Sandstone Tank broke through at the bottom tiles.  Left wall buckled first, right wall cracked.  Diverted remaining water from pump 2 into Granite Tank.

Cycle 45 - Granite Tank overflowed, walls remained undamaged.

 

A few notes.  I noticed that my liquid values climbed tremendously while pumping into the two tanks.  At the beginning of the experiment, my available water was listed as 375,722.5 kg.  On cycle 40, my available water was listed as 810,722.8 kg.  At this point, I was having lag issues and had to restart the game.  My next screenshot is taken on cycle 41, where my available water was listed as 132,641.5 kg (I had also dug into contaminated water sources by this time).  Keep in mind that no water was consumed during the experiment.  I had no algae habitats, my research stations were disabled, I never crafted the Microbe Musher, nor was I using an electrolyzer for oxygen.  My dupes were using outhouses and did not have showers.  Yet, I still lost about 2/3 of the water I transported.  So, while the Granite Tank held up whereas the Sandstone Tank buckled under the pressure, it seems that it is best to leave your water where it is ... and only use homemade reservoirs for contaminated water while collecting waste from your colony structures.

I should also note that I tested Granite vs Sandstone because in game the hardness value for Granite is 80, where Sandstone is 10.  I was curious if that value only determined the amount of time it takes to dig out the resource, or if it also affected its structural integrity.

I'm sure it's a bug.  The listed value for available water skyrockets, while the actual water is depleted by moving it.  I'm sure these values are really difficult for the game to keep track of.  I also encountered very large losses of water while digging out sources of contaminated water, to allow them to flow to a selected reservoir without the use of pumps.  It seems that it is best to leave your water wherever you find it, and only pump it directly to the structures that need it.

Well thanks for the experiment. While it makes sense that if you depending on the material you get different results/properties on your buildings.. it would be nice if it showed anywhere on the tooltip when building tiles xD 

like have a stat "pressure resistance", one "porosity" and such with different value on different materials.
