Equipment sets

Some item combinations should yield improved (or maybe negative, at times) results, allowing items like the Rain Hat and the Rain Coat to synergize when worn together, rather than the hat simply being invalidated by wearing its matching piece.

Example:

The Rain Coat could inherently add a certain level of dapperness while it is raining, and the Rain Hat could inherently add a certain amount of walkspeed during rain, but wearing them together would increase the effectiveness of both rain effects, or maybe add a new effect entirely.

So I suppose in that regard I am also suggesting some worn items should watch the worldstate or potentially other conditions to enhance their effects when applicable.

This would be an incentive to set equipment combos since the torso of any character barely uses anything besides a Backpack.

Honestly in a winter all I use is a Beefalo Hat, and a Backpack. If Klei were to add an incentive to make Beefalo Hat with Puffy Vest an combo which yields extra positive effects, I support this. I barely see anyone use anything in their torso besides armour or a backpack.

Having sets that provide bonuses would create outfits, could give the waredrobe another use to change between outfits when needed and quickly. There are a few survival games who do things of that matter, I believe Haven & Hearth has something similar. I approve this suggestion. A gatherer outfit would be nice, backpack, straw hat, effect could reduce gathering animation.

This sounds like a rather interesting idea.  It could really encourage the use of a majority of the various clothing pieces that currently don't really get used at all.  Would love to see you (or others) expand your examples to really showcase the design you're going for.  Overall I really like this.

Excellent idea.  I love the idea of a backpack based equipment set to encourage a specific hat be worn when wearing one.

Like some combos can be maybe something like this!

tophat  + dapper vest = tiny positive sanity aura & tamed mobs follow you a little longer

rain hat + rain coat = tiny positive dapperness when it's raining

ruins crown + ruins armor = tiny positive sanity aura & players around you move 5% faster

football helmet + wood armor = 10% less damage taken but 5% slower speed
