[POLL] Cooperation or Leeching

If YOU spend the time to collect resources, and you come back to people building on your base and trying to destroy machines, for a quicker start, is it cooperation or leeching?

...yyyeaaaa, if you're playing Social, people should definitely be asking before grouping up or taking stuff. I'd assume that a large part of Social is supposed to be actually making use of the chat function.
In Cooperative, though, grabbing stuff would probably depend on how tight-knit the group is. Last server, we ended up making an extra base and freely moving stuff between that and the main one for Winter shenanigans. Otherwise, it's nice to at least ask. Big thing about those servers though is that it usually revolves around one base and everyone takes from there, so the system itself is different.

Heh, I've had the too quiet thing happen a few times with groups. Everyone's out gathering stuff, new player comes in, thinks everyone's afk.

I guess it doesn't apply as much to solo play, but...I find it more effective to over-farm and chest stuff for later. Get a ton of wood, use it for the next season. Gather from Tumbleweeds for a bit, stock up on Grass and Twigs and Gold from PK items the weeds drop. Can't really understand the 'wasting gold' thing since gold is so common between that and caving. And Monster Meat farms that you can change into eggs...different playstyles, I guess?
Though, I actually don't see stealing and grief nearly as commonly as it used to be, so maybe the server you play on could be the problem? Of course, there aren't many Social servers to choose from, so that's a bit difficult. I find that the Beta tends to be safer than the main branch. Guess it's too much effort for intentional griefers and too complicated for most people new to the game.

Maybe if Klei implements a few changes based on each server type, people would actually play according to the descriptions.

I agree with Pyr0 (a side-note: what did you decide, are you taking Abigail?). NOT talking in general is rude. And on social servers - particularly those which list languages supported by the host like mine - it's a mistake. The chat is there to be polite and ask. I usually host as my computers are better-suited to this than my fellows', but when at another's place, I actually make myself a minor nuisance asking thrice where to build (from own materials).

This one is a pain. When I join a base, first thing I usually ask is if they want me to put down my egg sac somewhere, and if they say yes, then where. I think I've gotten an answer to that second part twice? Thrice? I don't like the idea of planting spiders anywhere they'd be in the way, but no one ever says as much as "I don't know". It's just silence.

Another attempt to call me uncooperative and entitled or?

Ahahahaha I wondered if that was who you were talking about. There's history here. If you're just rejoining the forums as of a couple days ago, you're a little late to a party you should be glad you missed.

Oh lordy, him. Block, ignore, and forget; complete waste of your time.

I'm just going summarize my usual feelings on topics like these: if you play on a public server with no active administration, you're asking for frustration. You're invariably going to find yourself playing with people whose views on etiquette and the like don't mesh with your own. No amount of discussion is going to change it, especially considering the vast majority of those people probably won't even see these topics.

I will say for what it's worth that I think it's perfectly reasonable that the things you gather together are "yours" in some sense. There are limits and caveats -- don't be a jerk and just pillage the entire world, don't be greedy with super-uncommon stuff like gears -- but generally whatever you've pulled together, there's going to be tons more of; if someone can't be bothered to ask to use some of the things you've gotten together, they should just go get their own. Cooperation is a two-way street.

First forum I ever used was Neoseeker and that was for like trading Pokemon in X and Y lmao.. I got Arceus which is cool, even though I never use him.

Thats how some people are in these games, they either give you the silence treatment or just ignore you completely, but some have the audacity to complain when you ignore them and don't reply to them.. Worst case sending you steam messages about how insignificant you are and how not replying to someone when being spoken to is rude.. Just send a lightshot link to where I asked countless times for them to reply and if they were there, that normally quiets them. Some people are massive hypocrites.

I can't seem to multiquote which is annoying.. Anyways, I understand the whole "don't pillage the world thing", thats why I typically gather as much "abundunt" resources as possible, so I never need them again. Abundunt being wood, wood is everywhere, I don't burn down my charcoal from the trees right at spawn, I'm segment part of a forest and burn down a stack of charcoal and then the 3 stacks of wood I cut down will give me just under probably what I harvested from the burnt trees. I don't try and act greedy, but people never complain about lack of trees, but I never make more than 2 crock pots, 4 isn't needed.

If I did collect resources, I would like to freely classify them as mine, if I was in a group, I'd classify it as ours. Widfrig is basically the queen of greed when it comes to a player playing solo widfrig on a public server.. Murders those 2 clockwork horses and rooks and then either dc's, makes like 6 iceboxes or just hoards them - Lucky sometimes to find one who will give one. I know I'll pull in more together, but then at the same point when we're constantly needed to pull in double or triple the resources than I would need to alone, and we exhaust our location and then have to exhaust another one, thats why I just play on Social ones. I can easily live 3-4 advanced farms that I have grown 1 dragonfruit in it. Maybe a few berry bushes as fillers and a few saplings.

I meant wasting as in just because its an abundance, and most people on social servers will probably not go spelunking whatsoever since they'll leave and the next day its Autumn Day 1 again, people use that logic and make like everything out of gold, which seems like a big waste.. You need a good pile of gold to start off with, and if everyone went off their own ways, say 10 people, and they needed around 10 gold each, thats alotta gold.

Yeah it is ANR so it wasn't as annoying when I was not playing ANR, the new stuff is still a fiddle though. I don't think griefers would care or want to spend the extra minute downloading the opt in beta, so we might be safe from like 80% of them.
