Reporting players for insulting others

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there is a way to report players ingame. Not for griefing, because I understand that's hard to proof. But for insulting other players in the chat.

I usually play on the Klei hosted servers and I usually enjoy playing with strangers, but sometimes players join and if things don't go their way or they start to feel bored, because there's not much going on at the moment, they randomly start to insult others in the chat. In other online games, I'd usually just right click the player name in the chat, send a report (witch usually sends the chatlog to a GM I think) and ignore the player afterwards, but I don't think that's possible in DST.

I really think players should get a temporarily ban for using insulting words in the chat. At least where I live, insulting someone is a criminal offense.

And where are the admin and the moderators on the server, I wonder? Fine. I know how to appoint moderators for my servers, but let's assume not everybody does. This, if it is not a dedicated server, still means the admin has the game open. And do they really neglect their role and look the other way?

Call me old-fashioned, but I am of an opinion it's the admin's role to ensure a good playing environment. Watching the behaviour of other players is part of this. Muting someone hardly works as it is usually an invitation to more griefing (notice how verbal assaults betrays one with griefing tendencies, aaand I do not differentiate between burning the trees for Woodie down and an endless streak of profanities; in fact, pines, I can replant; fixing a player, especially a newbie, is a complex and difficult process). The admin ought to help you. On my servers as they are designed for cooperation and taking care of newbies, if someone still spits profanities after three polite but firm requests to stop, it is a kick. Even if the admin went to make tea, there is still evidence in the logs. They should hear both sides out and compare the testimony with evidence in the logs. This only sounds fair.

...Right?

I know that I can mute people, but I really think there should be consequences for bad behavior.

In my opinion some people just deserve a temporarily ban, not just from the server they were playing on, but from the whole game. Otherwise they'll just hop on the next server and start again.

I just played on one of the Klei hosted servers again:

I don't think Klei should tolerate such toxic behavoir from their playerbase.
