Ideas on how to change attacks from creatures to make up for lag

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is because of my crappy internet or my computer, but I seem to notice that the combat in DST is much more slower to respond than in single players DS. For example you could be far enough away from spiders in DS and not get hit, whereas the same distance in DST gets you hit. This doesnt seem like a problem until you add it up with the overall increased health that all the mobs have. This wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the fact that:

  • You can now only Hit werepigs once before they attack you (used to be twice).
  • Charging and attacking spiders with the kiting method is a lot harder than before since it appears their hit box is bigger. Meaning the only way to kite spiders is either thru parkour-like kiting or traps
  • Because of this lag everyone's hit boxes seems bigger, making it harder to dodge. (even Giant's attacks)

I'm all about not making DST easier, but the fact that there's a 0.5 second lag in combat makes it pretty hard and frustrating to kite things compared to Single player DS.

I think there are a few ways to change this, such as decreasing the range of creatures, increasing the amount of time between attack and health loss.

Please let me know If I'm the only one who experiences this 0.5 second lag in combat (compared to single player DS)

Otherwise Bump this up so the devs can see it?

I have to say that I only have few hours in DST, but so far I haven't noticed any major differences in speed or lag.

In one occasion there I had a lag of around ~0.5 seconds when chopping a tree, but this only lasted for few seconds and other than that I have had nothing to complain about.

This might be an obvious point, but have you checked what kind of ping you have?

I go to dedicated servers and I'm usually at 50-70. I thought that ping was average. No mods on the servers I usually go to and I usually don't have any mods running myself. I only notice the lag in combat, (where it makes the most impact) there could be lag in chopping trees, but it doesn't really matter to the point where I care.

By default, in DST, as a client, you don't see your character where he really is in the world.

This is to make it look like your inputs don't have a delay.

But in reality, in your case, in the server simulation, you were actually close to the spider.

Enter in console:

ThePlayer:EnableMovementPrediction(false)

This will make you have input lag, but show you what is really going on.

And you say you have a 0.5 second delay, but for me, since I'm not in the US/Canada, it can go to like 2 seconds or more.

So yeah, disable prediction and relearn to kite.
