[Dont Starve] Cave Help

Recommended Posts

If you know me, I'm a noob at don't starve and am generally asking a lot of questions. I have been playing on my world and am thinking I should expand into caves. I would like to know all the tips, tricks, farms, death traps, and EVERYTHING else you know (It would help if you could include how to build stuff too). Also things like what should I bring into the caves, what are essentials for survival inside, and anything else I may need to know! I look forward to your responses! :) Thx!

Immediate things you will notice upon entering:

You'll gain wetness in Spring most likely, because water falls from the overworld.
You'll lose sanity constantly unless you have +sanity buffs.
There are holes on the rooftop that provide sunlight and there are patches of trees and other resources right underneath them, try to settle there, maybe.

Things I'll say:
Mandatory light source must be in your inventory, from torches to lanterns or (my favourite) mining helm.
Actually, the mining cap will be enough. They can be refueled easily with light bulbs that grow on glowing plants. Easily spotted since they shine brightly and offer light. They are nice sources of rot otherwise.
Go inside with some constructions prepared in your blueprints tab, (campfires, fridges, farms, and anything you might want to add to your underground base, possibly) so that when you settle down you can quickly place your stuff and create a little settlement.
Look out for trouble because it's really dangerous in there with new spider species and the hounds of the underground: cave worms. They'll come in hordes just like hounds do, so be prepared...

Rocky Balboas lobsters are tameable, and you should tame them because they are tanky, they are strong, and they are made of rock, so they are really helpful, and all it takes to tame them is merely rocks (or other minerals like flint, gold, gems...) be careful not to take them to the overworld with you unless you want to create a plague of rock lobsters. They naturally multiply.

When you want to head further down, you can go to the Ruins and there you won't have sunlight anymore, so go prepared. And there are cycles in which there's danger all around with the appearance of nightmare creatures... But I won't go any deeper because that's below the cave level.

Whenever you go out of the cave, if some days have passed you will probably be greeted by a pack of hounds as soon as you get out so make sure you can run fast to your base or anywhere you can get rid of them.

I like to catch bees to take down with me for fear of the blasted worms. I usually take two stacks down with me and release them where there's access to light. They'll fall asleep in the depths of the caves, but they should wake up when worms come along and will knock them the hell out in large enough numbers. If keeping loose bees instead of making bee mines (bee mines are too costly and inefficient, IMO), keeping some honey with you is a must so they don't die from starvation in your pockets.
