Refuel bottle lanterns

Recommended Posts

I think is it necessary to have a renewable source to fuel bottle lantern and boat lantern. Right now you can only use fireflies and bioluminescence to fuel those lights. I suggest a few alternative way for fuels:

+ Coal, Obsidian

+ Dragon heart

+ Maybe somekind of oil ..? Like palm oil ?

+ embers from krissures ?

Or maybe some SW equivalent of the light bulb plant.

I agree. While it isn't really an immediate problem, theoretical possibility of being able to keep using these items throughout an infinite world is desirable.

However, instead of a new item to fuel these, I think simply making bioluminescence renewable is a better option. Mostly because mixing a biological light source with fire related items do not really work well. Here is my suggestion:

Make a few bioluminescence spawn at whale kill sites, a while (15-20 days?) after the carcass explodes.

Advantages:

  • Makes sense, the microorganisms would feed on the fine grain carcass remnants and multiply.
  • Makes bioluminescence renewable, but not easily or immediately, so whatever balance developers have in mind for bioluminescence availability is probably not affected by a lot.
  • Adds another benefit to killing whales which, IMO, currently do not have a good investment/reward ratio.

Disadvantages:

  • Players won't run out of fuel for lanterns by day 853*, as currently intended.

* Individual results may vary.

This idea I like the most.
