So... that is... kinda of a problem

so... basically I made my camp near an fishermerm hut, also managed to get an beebox 2 farms and now i'm doing some Drying racks, and well... basically I ain't using either the farm or the bee box and I already have 22 rots in my chest (all from fish / monster meat) and it's only day 14!.

 

i'm getting overloaded by food! there is crabs, monster meats and wayyyy too many fishes from the fishermerm.

 

I think that the fishermerms should eat at least a few of the fishes they fish. i'm basically watching all my food rot because I have so much that I can't eat it, and I didn't even focus on getting food.

I agree with the Fishermerm issue.  I've never had the chance to camp near them, but from the few interactions I've had, I can see where you're coming from.  I think it would be good if the Merms would eat the fish unless you collect them.  

 

I haven't actually used bee farms or regular farms in any of my SW playthroughs so far.  I haven't found any need for them.  I've been living off Mussel Sticks, crab traps, ice filler, and the occasional monster meat from snakes or hounds. 

Yeah I've got the exact same "problem". I don't use any of the food I have thx to all the fish! And having a fat packim is easier than ever! I think a raelly easy solution is having them fish some kind of special fish that requires a lot of work for it to be edible or that they fish alot but mostly get junk like rocks and twigs, but in some cases fish. I don't want them to fish less because I love how they work but it's far too easy to get food!

 

Ps. These guys are perfect for a new character kind of like Webber. He can befriend them and they don't run from him. Maybe even the normal merms are friendly but maybe that's op I don't know...

I think a raelly easy solution is having them fish some kind of special fish that requires a lot of work for it to be edible or that they fish alot but mostly get junk like rocks and twigs, but in some cases fish. And I also agree with you, to an extent. For me personally, I've definitely seen how much the fishermerms will fish, and it can be kinda crazy, but for the most part it's been hard for me to safely reach all the fish with the regular merms running around, the little fish monsters, and the poison clouds all over the place, so it felt at least slightly balanced for me. Plus it's not exactly the most practical thing to put a base on/near a swamp, I've tried it before but it made things a lot more difficult than they had to be.  :wilson_incredulous:

Regular merm houses can be hammerd, flurps will usually die out 90% over the first few days of fighting and will not respawn, poison holes can be dug. You can have an empty swamp with just fishermerms.

And it's not just the fishermerms. There are lot of things like this. Pretty much none of the creatures eat each other (except snakes and spiders) or anything really. They just live their live not caring much or just leave stuff for you. (Pigs and craps theoretically eat stuff, but that will rarely happen. Apes got all that and more though. But you can get most of the things back.)

 

Like I said in other threads, I hope there will be more interactions with the enviroment/mobs than there are now. As annoying as the gobblers and moles were sometimes, they atleast were rivals for loot and cared about the world. Right now only the sharx do that.

Everything else is just loot.

And some crockpot recipes are just insane.

Eating spoiled food, raw meat and so on should have small chance to poison the character, also in tropical setting food should sopil a little bit faster. Since we have the sea there should be way to get some salt to preserve food for longer, but salty things should kill some sanity and not restore HP.

Huh. Didnt know a lot of this stuff! Thought flurps respawned and didn't know you could dig up the poison holes. Thanks for the tips!

Yeah the holes have a 50% chance to drop poison glands so they're really useful. What you say is kind of true. I want to keep most of the monsters in the swamp alive because I like the challenge. So it has happened that I've gotten poisoned a few times but that still doesn't change the fact that I have two stacks of rot and two stacks of raw fish that is slowly spoiling too!

How about you try to make FAT Packim and tell me after if you still have lot of food in your fridge ok? .)

 

It's super easy so... yeah. You only need food that restores 120 hunger and that's 10 fishes, heck they restore 125! And I get 15 - 20 fishes a day!!! So yes. WIt is reaaaaaallllyy easy.

Yeah if you are sitting duck whole year in camp it is easy whatever Klei does with the game

yeah but i Wasn't, I went out to get bamboo an entire day cause I made my camp too close from the sea and when I came back i just picked up about 7 fishes (some the wind blown into the beach and the crabs ate).

- how is it different than have base on mushroom island, berry bush island, snake island, monkeys island, etc.?

- with 7 fish you are still short on food if you have fat Packim

- this is why fish spoil so quickly because as you said you have rot in fridge and not fish

- you went out of your base for one day? What a difference

- go explore for couple days and you will need much more food and fish is useless since it spoils so quickly so you have to make some real food from it (so more ingredients) or get another food

 

- at the end poison hole should respawn and so does those one eyed creatures so loving in marsh is challenging but rewarding (fishermerm)

I don't have fat packim neither a fridge (if i said it was on a fridge sorry my bad) and as I said, I still have other food sources, there are pigs and water beefalos not far away, I have about 6 farms, a full bee box, monkeys too and I can just cook a lot of surf'n turf or meatballs if I need, what i'm trying to say here is that the fishermerms provides way too much fish, so much that if you are working in your base or are constantly passing through them, you will never have trouble with food, they fish so much that some of the fish spoil even before I mind to go back to get more.

 

You get what i'm saying? just saying they should make fishermerms a little less reliable source of food, it's making all my other food sources useless if I'm not exploring (and I can still use the rots to get vegetables from the farms, so they still are kinda of a food source)

WOah you find pretty awesome place! In my couple worlds fishermerm were really rare and if i found them it was really bad island and as i said they should make marsh monsters/stuff respawn so it is dangerous to go there but if you DO you get nice prize = couple free fish .)

yeah actually I found a island with only one sand biome and a little marsh with this single fishermerm with about 5 tidal pools (no merms around it, so wan't much trouble securing the place) and another island spawned and is basically together to this one other (about 10 seconds away in a log raft) that have everything My island don't, Boars Spiders gold rocks etc...

 

but i still think they need some rebalance, I think making them eat at least a few of their fishes would be the more logical thing to do
