Who else is finding world navigation tedious?

Uhm ok, if you think 3 sand and refining them into empty bottles is rare. Bottles used to be rare and I think this was by far better. Now you just craft them yourself making them super easy to gather.

Looks like I forgot about that, I guess glass from sand makes sense, although a bit too easy now

Personally it's becoming a pain, a chore. I'm finding myself paddling around hopelessly trying to find an island 90% of the time. Islands are too far spread apart and in most cases it's the same type of island/biome. Don't get me wrong it's "ok" but I would prefer a sort of "direction".

You should be using the sea depths as indicators. If you just head out in one direction, there is no guarantee your going to find anything, and you may just run into the fog and come out the other side of the map.

If you head out, and you hit deep sea, then you should only keep rowing in the same direction for a short while. If it does not change to medium sea then shallow sea, then turn, doesn't matter which direction, and keep going. You'll eventually find shallow seas. Once you find a new shallow sea pocket, you will find and island, although you may need to turn a bit depending on where you entered to find it. Look for the shore waves (longer white wave lines that conform, roughly, to the shape of the island's shore)...they are your first indication your near land.

You shouldn't need more than that. It is very easy to find islands once you know how to navigate the seas. Just picking a direction and going, however, isn't necessarily going to land you on an island...you could randomly pick a water channel that spans the entire width or height of the map that way, in which case you would row forever, fog to fog.

I'm suggesting an item we can easily craft which will allow us to find or at last get us in the right direction, a sort of item that radiates when we are getting warmer to an island.

I think the spyglass does this, no? It takes a bottle (super easy to get), gold (rather easy to get) and a pig skin (moderately easy to get), so I think it's easy enough to craft without being too easy. Once your farming sand and have a few pig skins (the easiest way to get those is to hammer the pikes around a touch stone), you could have four spyglass pretty quick.

There is a very good chance they will tell you if the direction your going has any islands.

I woul\d like a bunch of smaller islands chained together in some places, like an archipelago, maybe not even a screen big worth of island

With a bunch of smaller "sand banks" poking out( that may or may not have a palm or limpet rock etc)

I don't mind exploring for the most part but important landmarks such as the Yaarctapus, volcano and slot machine being entirely random (from what I've seen) is such a pain. Give us clues as to where they are, damnit!

I have yet to find a world with yaarctapus right by the slot machine. Only found 1 world where the two are close enough and have a island in between that I can use as base.

One of the biggest challenge of the game is to find yaarctapus/slot machine early on. The game is much easier when you can set up base near them.

Don't need to set up near the Slot Machine. Set up near the yaarctapus and do your daily runs for dubloons. After stockpiling a bunch take a day off survival and gamble it up.

The original post suggested an item that could help you find land. The spyglass would help with that, but the bad thing about that is it only reveals the map in a cone in one directions. My suggestion would be make the spyglass reveal a radius around your boat because if you were looking for land, you wouldn't just be looking in one direction, you would do a 360 with the spyglass looking for land. Am I correct?

Still, the closer the better. Late game, more time at sea = higher chance facing sea hounds at mass number. Also less ship maintenance.

More like ~300 in most case. No point looking back.

Trawl deep sea during dangerous seasons. Panflutes for days means sea hounds aren't a problem. The closer the better, for sure, but it's not a necessity.

I personally think exploration is part of the game's important element and currently the most efficient tool for me is spyglass.

Previously it could be only used on islands and after the update i think now you are able to use it on a boat.

Just try how far it can see and you won't complain any more about exploration.

Gold is abundant since birds drops its now and then. Pig skin is easy to get: feed 4 monster meat to boar. Glass is now super easy to make with sands.

Consider using spyglass.
