Framerate Issue Profiles (Please participate if you're experiencing framerate problems)

Recommended Posts

Making this thread just so that I can post my own profile for the framerate issues I've been experiencing, but if anyone else is having problems with framerate in shipwrecked when their computer clearly should not be having them, this is the place to talk about it.

(For example, I'm seeing drops to 8 FPS when nothing at all is happening on day 68 when I had 50 FPS consistently a half an hour ago)

It's important to keep the devs updated on this stuff.

So, if you're having consistent and serious lag issues, quit and relaunch your game, and if the issue persists, here's how you can help out:

Open the console (If you know how, if not, it's an easy google search) and type in TheSim:ToggleFrameProfiler() and let the game run for about 3 seconds (Not too long or the file will get very large very fast) and then press up or in the console or type it in again to toggle it off. This will create a profile that the devs can use to figure out some of the problems we're having. Next you just need to find the profile, it'll be called something like profile.json and pin it here with your post after zipping it.

Thank you very much if you do this! You're a big help. If you have any further questions feel free to ask me here or in pms. Here's where you'll find the file if you're having trouble finding it:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dont_starve\data

And here's an example of what it'll look like when pinned properly, it's my actual profile of lag spikes during the Dry season when nothing's even going on.

Lower fps during hurricane season huge drop in FPS when sailing past a volcano

How bad are the framerate drops? I used to have drops during hurricane season before the update. Also, does quitting and reopening the world help at all?

I'm getting the same problem. I've mentioned this on another thread, but it never picked up much steam. As the days go on, from day 1 forward, the FPS seems to drop. FPS is not a problem during the Mild season. However, as Hurricane Season hit, the FPS seems drop take it's toll. We get a small reprieve during the beginning of Monsoon season, however it still is less quality than Mild Season. As we progress toward the Dry Season, the FPS drop is almost crippling. That's my experience anyways. On a slightly related note, I'm also having trouble with FPS in the Ruins on another file of mine. Hope it's not just me experiencing this difficulty.

Well, on the bright side you're indeed not alone!

...And on the dark side, well... You're not alone  :wilson_worried:

Have the framerate issues improved at all since the most recent updates?

I'm also experiencing significant lag during hurricane season. It seems even the nicest computers have some problem, or another around hurricane season.  :indecisiveness:

A lot of people are apparently experiencing this, yeah. bizziboi is hard at work on it though, so don't worry. Your input is a lot of help though so thanks for replying.

Did the lag not get any better at all after the latest updates?

Anything to help iron out any bugs. As for the change in FPS with the Hang Ten update, the improvement with lag has been very slight. Not really significant to say it's been better, or worse since the patch.

After the new update , my game takes like 30-60 seconds before really starting. I get a black screen for this time. And the same after i generate a new world. It just..sits there doing nothing. The only real fps problems i had happend when i hot an army of monkeys following me..if there more then 10 the fps drops to 10-15.At this point it`s imposible to fight anything.

...i can`t edit my own posts...strange thing for a forum in 2015.Anyway...wanted to correct some stuff in my post above..since i`m not fully awake and stuff :p So the fps drops to 10-15 when there`s an army of monkeys following me.And i found an island full of evrything i need..but there`s like 12 monkey huts and i can`t get rid of them cuz of the damn fps drop.Fighting at 10 fps is next to imposible.

I hear the rain causes a ton of lag, compared to RoG or Vanilla. Personally, 2 monkey huts caused some major lag. Might go digging around for my FPS if I get the energy to do it.

Hmm. I see. In that case, when the frame drops are at their absolute worst, quit out of the game and relaunch, and then if the lag persists, please do the steps I listed in the original post (opening console, getting a profile, pinning it here) it would help the devs out enormously! :)

you can enable your steam overlay to display your fps constantly as a tiny number in the corner of your screen, that's what I do.

That sucks, hmm..

If your computer is indeed overqualified for the game and this issue is going on, it'd help to see a little bit of detail as to the power of your computer along with a profile, if you wouldn't mind grabbing one when you're in that area. It could be really helpful :)

Hi
i am having severe fps problems after the very first day of hurricane season, not so bad in monsoon  and almost none in dry season.
This happends to me the very first day of sw.
Its really sad, i was looking forward to this dlc, i really was but this makes the game unplayable for me :c
Also, i've never had a problem with RoG so yeah /:
