How to host more than 6 players?

Recommended Posts

If you don't want to do the dedicated server route like smallishbird suggested you can also find mods on the steam workshop to increase the size of the server.

I tried to use the 6->30 player mod, but it doesn't work. I tried finding other mods, but found nothing.

Ah sorry, the mod doesn't look like it's been updated recently. You'll have to go with the dedicated server option for now.

I'll go over how to start a pre - configured dedicated server for you.
  • Hover over the Library tab in steam and select "Tools"
  • You should see a huge list of tools for random games, in this list you should be able to find "Don't Starve Dedicated Server", install that.
  • Once you've got it installed start it up and select the second option "Run pre-configured servers"
  • It should open two cmd windows. One named Overworld and the other named Caves
  • After those two windows show up you should be able to join it via the DST server browser in the LAN tab.
  • NOTE - If your in the DST CAVESBETA you will need to enable that in the DST dedicated server as well. If not you can ignore this bullet point entirely.
Now how to change the amount of people
  • By default the files for this dedicated server should be in C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Klei\
  • Go into the "DoNotStarveTogether_EasyConfigOverworld" file, open the settings file.
  • There should be a line of text that says "max_players = 6"
  • Edit the underlined value to however many people you plan to have playing with you.
  • If you want you can also add a password to ensure only your friends are able to join the server, to do this add server_password = password in the settings document and change the underlined password to whatever you wish.

Hopefully that should help, also sorry for the really late response, I would have said more sooner but I had a hectic couple of days filled with traveling and dentist things.
