SirBuizelton
They could be gathered via Trawl Nets in coral reefs or just anywhere as an actual material or even just a simple standalone item for cleaning up those frustrating puddles of water that just spawn inside your base and you can do nothing about, no matter how many sandbags you try to make to prepare. As a material, they could be used for several different things, one of which being a mop which, again, is for cleaning up the puddles that spawn in your base and make you rage. Another option for the material is a sponge helmet which both helps reduce damage taken but also protects against rain. Maybe it could even decay faster when actually protecting against rain and damage. Or it would probably make more sense for it to be used to intentionally make/keep yourself wet and cool off during the dry season. Just throwing ideas out there! I really would love to see some sort of solution to the times when base flooding is simply unpreventable though, in any way shape or form. I just thought sponge could be a very Don't Starve fun and goofy way of doing it, especially since sea sponge is a real thing. (Plus if my silly idea actually made it into one of my favorite games ever, it'd be extremely difficult for me to contain my happiness, I have to admit.) SirBuizelton
Please guys, I'm begging you. This is less than desireable. I intentionally didn't box myself in with sandbags this time and it's still a nightmare. Those puddles spawned right on top of my crock pot and lightningrod. PhelsarusBeel
I admit a sponge would a cool thing to have just for all the different uses you could come up with such an item (like the idea of a SPongevest what keeps you wet and cool during Volcano Season). Yeah, the idea is it actually slows down or stops the rate at which your wetness goes down so you don't have to continually slam into waves and damage your boat if you really need to stay wet and cool during summer. And of course, my primary use for it would be the sponge mop or simply the sponge, which would let you clean up these god-forsaken puddles you can do nothing about otherwise. (But it'd have durability of course so you can't just go around scrubbing entire islands clean and it doesn't eliminate the purpose of the sandbags. Haha well ideally either sponges will be rare/difficult to obtain or the mops will cost a whole bunch of it so people don't just end up wiping entire islands clean. Besides, I imagine the mop would be awful for dealing with rising tides, so it seems pretty balanced to me Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/60927-item-concept-sponge-possible-solution-for-monsoon-season-issues/#findComment-699346 Share on other sites
CaptainBlondebeard
I had this same idea playing through the game, the flooding really sucks and sponges make some sense and sound like a really fun addition, I hope something like this gets added in! OrderedChaos
Love this idea, as I am not a fan of the sandbags functioning like sponges, but I'm also not a fan of just removing the puddle mechanics. If there were sponges out there that were semi-uncommon then you would still have those frantic "Oh ****" moments when your science machine and crock pot are flooding, but at least you would have some recourse other than just waiting for the puddles to dry up. Removing the puddles entirely though, would kind of ruin the challenge of the monsoon season, so having some sponge item (probably limited use) would be a good compromise. Thank you, my thoughts exactly! It would definitely be limited use so you can't just go around wiping up every little puddle that spawns on your island but there IS something you can do to save your base if you play your cards right. That's the idea! And of course, it'd be nice for it to be fairly rare or just hard to get. Maybe it could even be a material used for other things (a sponge mop being just one of them) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/60927-item-concept-sponge-possible-solution-for-monsoon-season-issues/#findComment-699931 Share on other sites
sleepyglass
Where do sponges come from? Aren't there river/ocean -based sponges somewhere in the world? Can they be harvested and stockpiled? SirBuizelton
Where do sponges come from? Aren't there river/ocean -based sponges somewhere in the world? Can they be harvested and stockpiled? It may help balance if the sponges can actually rot, though that's certainly up for debate, especially since I know very little about sponges in real life, but I do know that they tend to exist in certain types of reefs, which is why I suggested that they could be obtained in the coral reefs (perhaps via trawl net, small chance on fishing rod while in the reef, or some other methods like perhaps they grow similarly to the way coral does and you can shave it with a razor, or maybe it could be some sort of ridiculous sponge tree you chop down, who knows how Klei/Capy would put their own silly spin on it.) But yes, I think they could be harvestable/stockpileable. But I don't think they should be very common.
