Reddoor
So i own both games and like playing DST with one of my friends but when he's not around, should i play Normal DS or are both games balanced the same? I dont think id like to play on public games on DST. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/59992-should-i-play-ds-or-dst/ Share on other sites

Woodlegs
DST monsters have double the health, and more of the Vanilla mechanics such as for touch stone. Also, dying and turning into ghost mechanic is a lot different. Play DS, not DST. DS also runs better. EDIT: and you get caves without needing 2 Dedicated Servers Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/59992-should-i-play-ds-or-dst/#findComment-692355 Share on other sites
imsomony
They're similar, but aren't exactly the same - there have been changes to DST to accommodate it being multiplayer, and to balance benefits/difficulties. For example, Dragonfly is a raid-style boss in DST and found in the desert all year long. In DS, Dragonfly is a giant who may or may not spawn on your character during Summer (similar to Deerclops). In DST, you have a choice of game mode (Wilderness, Endless, Survival) and there are varying ways you can be revived once you've died, extending the longevity of the play-through. In DS, there's no such thing as being a ghost - you have touchstones and meat effigies, and after that, it's perma-death. Some characters have also been changed for DST - Willow most notably, but WX-78 and Woodie as well. If you're not interested in playing on a public server, I'd recommend playing DS. It's still one of my favorite games, and I actually play it more than DST. Being able to survive all on your own will improve your overall skill at the game, which will definitely benefit you and your friend when you're able to play together again. Bearry
Definitely DS first. It makes more sense to survive on your own first before surviving with others which is more difficult. + DST's annoying lagginess is pissing me off.
