Wanting to learn how to do mods do Don't Starve

I have interest in learning to program on the moon and then create mods for our beloved game, have found it difficult to find good content on the Internet, I would start with something reasonably simple, creating a weapon, for so I wonder what all the files and parameters to follow, for example, the functions that have to be used to post the item equippably, finite .... Thankful in advance for all who try to help. = D

Step 1 is to get Notepad++.

 

Step 2 is to look at a lot of gamecode and mod code.

 

Step 3 is to get an idea and cause a lot of crashes due to misplaced commas and wrong syntax.

 

Step 4 is a finished mod, somehow.
