Don't Starve Steam Version not closing properly

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble with the Steam version of Don't Starve in that it doesn't appear to be closing properly.  Everything appears to exit fine and if I open up the task manager doesn't appear to be running.  However, if I dig into the resource monitor deeper, then I can see that dontstarve_steam.exe is still running and it is impossible to terminate without a reboot.  Trying to launch the game again in steam gives the "app already running error".  Any thoughts or suggestions?  There were a few similar threads on the steam forums, but no workable solutions.

Mine closes right all the time. If you are on a mac and something isn't closing at all go to:

Apple sign in top left corner > Force Quit > Close whatever app

If you are on anything else... look it up or something. Windows has to have a force quit thing

It's a PC, and yes, you can usually force quit applications, but for some reason, the executable is being locked out at the system user level of control so even trying to kill it with full administrator rights results in access denied.  Very frustrating.

It sounds like your Steam client is not closing the game properly due to improper delivery of game files to the Steam servers. Try these next few steps to resolve it:

- Completely exit Steam.

- Navigate to your Steam installation folder (~C:\Program Files\Steam)

- Delete the 'appcache' folder.

- Restart your computer and attempt to launch Don't Starve through Steam

Also, you may want to check if there are any background programs (security, anti-virus software, firewall, etc.) that are interfering with your computer's connection to the Steam servers.

No success.

I've also checked the security, A-V, firewall link before but haven't seen any connection.  I've even disabled them without success.  I have dozens of steam games downloaded at the moment and this is the only one that's behaving this way.

I noticed that the GEForce Experience had an active profile for Don't Starve so I thought that might be locking up the executable, but I deleted that app and there was no change.

From a resource perspective, it's completely inactive, it just will not terminate.
