Hey guys :)

I started modding DST today, and already ran into the first problem.

I use the character-sample mod.

My first head and face .png's are done but they are completely misplaced ingame.

Reapositioning them with spriter does not change a thing.

What am i missing...?

Whats the purpose of spriter anyway?

thx for the help guys :D

@PeterA,

btw, i was wondering if maybe one of your forumadmins can edit http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/28021-getting-started-guides-tutorials-and-examples/ to suggest the new extended character template right at the top of the post?

or maybe just make a new top sticky post in the DS-mod-forum to directly suggest that to beginners?

currently, to find the new template, u have to open the (for beginners)cryptic "Mod Tool Updates 2014/06/04"-thread, follow the link in there to another thread and find the link to the new template there.

would be really helpful for a lot of new modders, i also started with the old more complicated template^^

@Konki,

yeah, u are not supposed to change the spriterfiles for charactermods(as the tutorial says), characters are a special case. the spriterfile there is really only useful to check your changes without starting the game.

however, for other things like items and creature u can make custom animations with spriter.

ohh so there's no way to change the characters appearance with spriter ?

i use photoshop for the creation of the .png files but its extremly hard to sync all of the pieces up, without changing their position with spriter.

seems unnecessarily complicated not to use spriter for the creation-process itself. ?!

@Konki,

well, if u ever try to actually animate something(a creature or item) in spriter, u will notice that such a change in an existing animation is much more complicated than it sounds, since u would have to edit ALL the animations(and possible even all the keyframes of those animations) a character can do(characters have far more animation than anything else in the game).

i think @Corrosive is working on a tool to actually change stuff in the characteranimations, without having to completely rework hundrets of hours of characteranimations.

so yeah, charactertemplates are a bit hardcoded and u may have to piece stuff together with different textures and make compromises(see this recent thread for example http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/53567-long-hair-clipping/ )

and pls use http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/46849-tutorial-using-extended-sample-character-template/ this has more space on each texture and some more textures to help u piece stuff together.
