N3tRunn3r Posted May 7, 2015 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Hello Community,dear Devs and Mods, today I was thinking about to implement a "Trading System" for Don't Starve Together which every player can access in-game. It is a menu you can open, if it is via ESC-key, a UI-button, a configureable key or even... let me surprise you below. This "Trading Menu" will list all current online players on that server you are in. You select one player and offer a trade. If this player agrees (which had been talked and agreed together via chat before already) a 2nd menu will so pop-up. In there, you can add your 40 stones in an exchange for 5 gold nuggets for example. Both players need to "agree" this exchange at first of course to prevent "hijackers". If both players agreed this exchange, a "Gather" button will enlighten in green color to finish this trade. You get this idea... What if it is possible to "broadcast" an offer for all players. First come first serve... you accept this offer and this "Trading Menu" will insta pop-up. To "unlock" this trading menu, let's say you need to blueprint it 1st. The receipe will be: * 2 Birds* 1 Rope* 1 Chest Now you can craft/unlock the Trading Option and so 2 "Carrier Pigeons" who carry a Chest together. This chest will hold - of course - your trading/exchanged items and the Pigeons fly to the designated player and vice versa. This Trading System will even be allowed to exchange whole Structures like ... Pots, Bird Cage, etc... Weapons, Armor, just all items. Flying Carriers? What about walking Carriers?! Tame a Spider Queen, lol. Will there be enemies to take over your (flying) Carriers? Maybe... Asparagus Posted May 7, 2015 Share Posted May 7, 2015 @N3tRunn3r, I think you mean "Couriers"... well this wouldn't be a bad idea... but can we shoot down the couriers to get the loot like one of those drones going around? Also, I don't know how you can place structures in the chest since they're not an inventory item... you could just send the materials for it... But this idea would open up the path to give the old merchants a new lease on life... maybe somewhere in "the world" you can go to their "trading post" and conduct your business there... or, like you say, craft something so you can conduct this "trade" but instead of a pigeon (robin, winter robin, crow) you can use the already existing merchant prefabs so it would be lighter on the developer... but ripping people off of their hard earned loot would still be nice... What about to be able to unlock all 3 kinds of couriers? What about to be able to unlock and craft various sub-couriers with different strength of armor and moving speed etc? Possibly to equip those Couriers with advanced defenses etc with extra armor or even stronger weapons. They will have a 1, 2 or even 3-slot inventory, depends what courier you have built. What about to equip them with a stack of Nightmare Fuel for an extra flying/walking boost or even make them invisible for a specific amount of time. Hmm, what about to control these couriers by yourself? Ah, ideas over ideas, but the fact will be still the same: Be able to exchange items via a Trading Option, if it is stationary or dynamically. Of course you might kinda be able to steal items off these moving and/or flying couriers, hehe. Try to find, catch and/or defeat them. ^^ If it is a courier with low armor but high speed, or a heavy courier which walks or even fly slowly around. Well, I don't want to advertise anything, but there is also an idea with a stationary Trading Post, yeah. In a randomized created world, there are various amounts of such Trading Posts to find in which players meet together and so to exchange their needs. Ah, what about to be able to craft such Trading Posts and place them somewhere?! Maybe via a stationary TP, you will be able to buy/unlock/blueprint couriers. Let's discuss more... I would be the person who would give you an amazing trade, one that you'd think I'm not very bright for doing. However, I'll then follow my courier with my friends so it can lead me to your base where I could pillage it and get my stuff back. Trading needs to be done anonymously within base, otherwise this would be too risky to be worth having. I'd personally would like the idea of creating some sort of magical machine which would act similar to an Auction House like in a MMORPG. It will be anonymously unless you yell it out with whom, when and what you are wanna trade. To craft a statinonary Trading Station would fit at most, I guess, but to craft various different couriers would be also very amazing within some or even all the ideas which have been posted above. A big Trading City and/or a few smaller and hidden ones will be also a very nice addition to the game. In my opinion, the worlds could be greater, so with all this implemented, we might see lager areas and - of course - more (free?!!) content soon. Please forgive me with my double post. I'm actually surprised how it's not against the rules to throw the mod argument over and over. It doesn't provide much of anything. If you want to rely on mods, that's perfectly fine. However some people don't want to use mods or prefer the vanilla polish and theme instead. Really hope the moderators consider making it against the rules to even mention mods in the Suggestions and Feedback section. Obviously every feature in this section is capable of being a mod, therefore there is no need to say it. I hope until then, there is something seriously implemented into the game mechanics to prevent them. No PvP enabled, no grieving!! Really easy. Of course, there might be stupid trades and then you can follow couriers into friendly/enemy bases etc.. Hmm. No Risk No Fun. Well, imo a generated world is yet not that huge. It is like you have revealed the whole map in just like 7 in-game days. To follow a courier doesn't really "that" matter then ^^, but could be a strategic "advance" within the 1st in-game week. Ha, I just got an idea for a next gamemode. The Courier gamemode. Hmm... I should open a new thread about this. You won't be able to collect various stuff, but need to buy and/or exchange them from merchants. Thsi is maybe a bad idea, haha. Nah, seriously... You craft a rocket and put items into it, select this "courier" and its destination with a click, the rocket launches with a nice effect and explodes in that destiantion. All included items will drop out. Of course, you cannot set a destination next to structures so you wont be able to begin a nuke war. Hmm, "Nuke War" ^^ a new gamemode. Be the first who collected enough Plutononium and without correct equipment, you get massively hurt by collecting it. An additional idea about this rocket issue is, you start a rocket with some items included BUT a parachuted crate will easily and smoothly drop on its set destination. A 1st prototyped rocket will only have a slot, and advanced rocket up to 5. Depends what you have crafted. I must say, besides the stationary Trading Post this idea with the rocket and a dropping parachuted crate is the best idea. You see, there can be many ways to fulfill trades in-game.
