ThisIsBedlam
Bug Submission: Category: Client Crash Issue Title: Game won't launch on Mac. Issue Description: I try to launch the game on Mac, and it looks like it launches for a fraction of second, like the icon on the dashboard pops up, then immediately disappears and the game doesn't load. I have tried deleting the mod folder as a bunch of posts suggested, but this has not solved the problem. Steps to Reproduce: It happens every time I launch the game on Steam. rezecib
@ThisIsBedlam, Attach ~/Documents/Klei/DoNotStarveTogether/log.txt Has the game ever launched successfully for you? Is this new?

Developer CharlesB Posted March 12, 2015 Developer Share Posted March 12, 2015 Hi Guys, Are you running on a Mac account with admin privileges? The same account that installed the game from Steam? We're finding that in some situations the game doesn't have permission to create the Klei/DoNotStarveTogether subfolder in your documents and this is causing it to fail to load. We haven't been able to find the root cause of this, however. Can you try manually creating ~/Documents/Klei/DoNotStarveTogether and see if you are able to run after that. Please report back with whether this works or not, we'd like to be able to solve this for good.
Extremebeaver
I tried to create a subfolder in documents called Klei and then a folder in there called DoNotStraveTogether and it still won't run
MikeDedmon
Hi - I created the folder above as requested. Still doesn't load. I am running as the administrator account. The launch did create a log.txt file with this information: Starting UpVersion: 129926Don't Starve Together: 129926 OSX_STEAMBuild Date: 2015-03-12_13-44-42Parsing commandlineCommand Line Arguments: Initializing SteamError, Steam failed to initialize, result=1...The application will now exitShutting down FYI - The ~/Documents/Klei/DoNotStarve did already exist from the other game. If it was a rights issue, I would think it would have affected the regular don't starve game as well.. Steam is running as well - I've tried launching from the steam client and also from the icon on the desktop.

ThisIsBedlam
I tried creating the DoNotStarveTogether folder manually, but the issue persists. I am trying to launch it from an admin account as well. The log.txt file it created gave me this: Starting UpVersion: 129926Don't Starve Together: 129926 OSX_STEAMBuild Date: 2015-03-12_13-44-42Parsing commandlineCommand Line Arguments: -psn_0_1270070Initializing SteamError, Steam failed to initialize, result=1...The application will now exitShutting down Here are my Macbook Pro's specs:Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MBSoftware OS X 10.8.5 (12f45)

Developer CharlesB Posted March 16, 2015 Developer Share Posted March 16, 2015 Hi Guys, This crash seems to be different from what I thought initially. There seems to be some sort of problem on the Steam side of things. We've seen it occur once in house but it went away after several reboots. I've added some logging to our Steam initialization to hopefully get an idea of what specifically is going wrong. It will be included in the next update, today or tomorrow. It would be helpful if once you get it you run the game and report back with the contents of your log file again. In the meantime try the following things to see if any helps at all:1. Restart Steam2. Restart your machine3. Delete and re-install DST3. Delete and re-install Steam
MikeDedmon
I deleted the game (not steam yet) and reinstalled - this is what was in the error log. Starting UpVersion: 130298Don't Starve Together: 130298 OSX_STEAMBuild Date: 2015-03-16_13-47-20Parsing commandlineCommand Line Arguments: Initializing SteamSteam must be running to play this game (SteamAPI_Init() failed).Error, Steam failed to initialize, result=1...The application will now exitShutting down
MikeDedmon
Success - I deleted steam completely including the local files. Reinstalled steam, downloaded the game and it started. Hope this works for all... Thanks for all the follow up on this issue and working with me to troubleshoot.
Developer CharlesB Posted March 18, 2015 Developer Share Posted March 18, 2015 I'm glad to hear that worked for you. I've come across what might be a less severe solution. It's described in the Steam support pages here: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638 I'm sorry to make you click through to the post but for some reason the forum won't let me copy the steps here. Just note that you can't do the Steam reset in a Chrome browser window, it has to be in IE, Safari, or Firefox.
