AdrianG
Can we PLEASE, for the love of god, have a better means of identifying griefers in our games?!? We have a half solution for dealing with griefers. Kick and ban are great, and absolutely necessary. But without shrinking down the server size to virtually nil and following around new players to determine their intent, there is absolutely NO effective means of knowing if someone has entered your game simply to burn down every tree, bush, grass tuft, twig, to smash your structures and ruin your world. The "fog of war" effect (not seen in Don't Starve) where you could view other players' immediate effect on the world, precludes this. You can only see what occurs in your immediate surroundings. A simple update every 10 seconds where destruction of valuable resources is announced via a global message is all that is needed for a reasonably intelligent admin to detect malign intent and send that individual away. Server griefing is a very real, very persistent and pervasive problem. It is poisonous to the community and completely undermines the "T" in DST. If not global updates, can we PLEASE, PLEASE have a solution to this? GalloViking
That's why I'll probably never play DST. Alone, I don't have to care about game ruiners... Anyway, they should add a "Trust" system to their game. Begins at 0, decreased when kicked and banned from a server, and increased when you play enough time on a server without being reported. It should help to find who is a troll and who isn't. Michi01
@GalloVikingThe problem is that trolls could make aserver like "Everyone welcome!" andthen instantly ban everyone so othersthink they're griefers. GalloViking
That's a dead end, sadly. Trolls and griefiers will always be part of multiplayer sandbox games. Don't Starve Together won't be an exception. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/51006-server-griefing/#findComment-613326 Share on other sites
AdrianG
Perhaps I should clarify what it is that I'm suggesting. I am proposing the implementation of an announcement system that automatically calls out every 10 seconds a running tally (since the last update), of valuable resources that have been destroyed within the game, highlighting the person responsible for their destruction. It would be a setting that could be toggled on/off depending on whether the admin felt it was necessary, and would announce and display in a similar manner to the global death messages that occur, and would appear something like this: --------------------------------------- Sidviscious has destroyed 3 berry bushes, 7 grass, 2 twigs, 11 trees.... 10 seconds elapse.... Sidviscious has destroyed a crock pot, a fire pit, 11 trees, 9 berry bushes.... 10 more seconds elapse... Sidviscious has destroyed 4 pig houses, 9 grass, 6 twigs, 23 trees.... --------------------------------------- I think get the idea. Ultimately it would highlight those individuals who are making a repeated and dedicated effort to destroy structures and resources within the world. Once they have been identified the admin need simply kick or ban the offender, and possibly announce to the server that a snapshot rollback would take place to repair the damage caused by said player. If time stamps were added to the announcements, it would further enable a highly accurate restoration of the world before any of the damage occurred. Kuldiin
Use Simple protection mod. It doesn't make things 100% protected, but protects enough to make griefing time consuming and annoying for the griefer. Myrisymto
i would say that there could be a simple solutionhow about extra options wich allow players only to interact/burn/destroy stuff that they themself had madeand to be able to for example grab stuff from chests etc they would need the permission of the one who created the server or build it.ok that woudlnt solve the forest burning.... but maybe other options like: permisisons to burn stuff on the servercould fix that. The Letter W
I agree that a feed of changes for the host would be nice. Last night I only knew someone was destroying my base because one of the other players in my server was on Skype with me at the time.I don't like having to confine one of my players to babysit newbies, it's not fun. I don't like having to babysit newbies either, but I'll do it if I have to. And I also like hosting open servers because getting that far with randomers is actually pretty neato, it's a completely different feel than what you get when it's people you know. Plus I don't mind teaching new people about the game. DarkXero
This has been discussed in other thread, where the solutions by Crynux were the best. There is also the protection mod, that heavily discourages most griefers, because they are so stupid they announce themselves as that by picking Willow. Why not craft a torch then burn everything is a mystery. However, the best measure is just to ban and rollback. I don't mind rolling back the server because I set the intervals to 1 day. 8 minutes are nothing for my play sessions. If I had a log that said to me "x guy burnt this" then tons of "y burns", "y burns", "y burns" or "x guy hammered this", "x guy hammered that" on live time, then it would be far more comfortable to ban and then rollback the server. I would just have to look at their actions in a small time period. I don't like having to babysit or constantly patrol everything, but I have to.
