...That is a brilliant theory. Let me put this in a more mathematical form:

  1. Wilson in main world, Maxwell in AM
  2. Webber from probably not really at all cheated other world <-> replaces Maxwell in AM
  3. other world with Maxwell can now be deleten
  4. Wilson from main world <-> replaces Webber in AM
  5. Webber in main world, Wilson in AM (but who cares)

I never did AM myself, but it would be awesome if that worked!

This requires you to go through adventure mode twice though. Using webber, you could probably do that legitimately in a few weeks if you haven't conquered it already (if you already have -also appllies for the wilson run-, then you shouldn't care a lot about cheating imfo).

This is my theory. I am only an amateur coder so I really don't know, but as far as i think, this is only on a personal save.

By freeing Maxwell, you didn't change the game in Don't Starve data, where you extract the world data.

The reason I think this is because when you chop down a tree in world 1, a tree isn't missing in world 2.

Only if you changed Maxwell to Webber in /data would this happen.

will Webber be their And will my world be converted into Webbers?

Nope.

In World A where you play as Webber and replace Maxwell in throne, if you go back to AM and play as Maxwell, you will see Webber in the throne.

In World B where you start out as Wilson and play AM, you will see Maxwell in the throne. Not Webber.

It would've been cool/continuous story wise if you can see Webber in World B's throne so you can "save him", but then again, what if you have 5 different save files with different people on the throne? How does the game tell which character to display in Checkmate? Maybe it'd be a pain to determine and implement. So they just treat each save slot as a separate universe. No crossovers.

Yes, it is possible to change characters that way. I've done it myself a few times.

The logic is exactly how mobbstar wrote. Good luck going through adventure mode twice.

If you don't care about cheating, you can also create another world with the character you want and change it's save file with the one from the old world. It will keep the world exactly how it was.

But the game may crash if you do this, so back up everything if you're going to do it.

Firstly, despite never having finished AM myself, I know that the entire point behind the finale is to save him/her, for example the character quotes all suggest pity and sympathy when inspecting puppets (throne dudes).

And you're suggesting to save five variables instead of one global variable, and tie them to the world or save slot presumably, resulting in even more information to store?

Wait, I'm confused. OP seems to ask if it's possible to change characters w/o touching game files.

So is it possible or not? I thought if Webber sat in World A's Adventure Mode, you won't see him sitting in World B's Adventure Mode.

No, I'm not suggesting anything. I honestly thought (and also read countless of times from other spoilers) that this is how Adventure Mode is handled. The save files are separate. Slot2 doesn't know that Slot1's throne has a Webber sitting in it.

I wasn't refuting your instructions. I was just answering the OP that it's not possible as is to switch characters this way. Of course if you modify the game files, anything is possible. You can (probably) even put a Pig King on the throne if you make the necessary graphics + code changes.

(Edited to reply to Mobbstar too. And edited again for this:)

I'm honestly asking now if my initial assumption was wrong. So is it true? If you finish AM as Webber in World1, you will see Webber sitting on throne in World2? I've been told countless of times that this isn't the case and would love to know if the game changed.

It is possible. When you save Maxwell from the throne, whoever you put there will stay there until you complete again. It doesn't matter if you did it on slot 1 or 2, he will appear there instead of Maxwell.

Oooh so the blogs I read were wrong! O___O

But I'm glad. :) This means I don't have to play again as Maxwell to save Wilson! I've been dying a bunch of times now trying to finish AM as Maxwell because I didn't want to leave Wilson in the throne... It's so difficult with Maxwell's low health. :( I'll try to finish with WX-78 instead. He's an evil robot and he'll probably enjoy being on that throne, making DSers suffer.
