What features would you like to see in a Don't Starve 2?

Recommended Posts

Hypothetically, DST is completed and years have past since its well received reception and award-winning reviews. Now it is time for Don't Starve 2.

  1. What features did you Love/Hate about Don't Starve?
  2. What new thing would you like to see in your imagined Don't Starve 2? (ex. Better housing, Different Combat Gameplay, Space Travel, Zombie Businessmen, Less Recipes)

Let your mind free or let it explode into pink matter and innovative ideas.

Above all else remember: this thread is for FUN!

Don't Starve: Always Hungry for More

I'll start off by answering the OP's questions before I initiate my tangent.

1. Features I loved were the seamless meshing together of hunger and sanity alongside the need to not get murdered by pig guards. I also loved the atmosphere that was both dark and cartoonishly lovable at the same time. Although sometimes, it seems like things got a bit too illogical. To the point of me getting thrown out of the immersive cycle.

2. More storyline. Seriously. MOAR! The specifics of this is what I will do in my tangent.

AND NOW FOR THE MAIN EVENT

Don't Starve: Always Hungry For More!

Plot Synopsis:

Wilson Higgsbury has completed the Adventure, and now sits atop the Nightmare Throne, forced to do THEIR bidding. Wilson, being the falliable man he is, draws in someone new to play games with. However, he has a significantly different view of how his world should be than what Maxwell came up with....

Differences in gameplay mechanics:

-The game's time scale is far longer than before. Take your time with planning what you will do.

-Things take longer, generally. Food will take some time to cook, both on a fire, in an oven, or in a Pressure Cooker.

-Technlogical Advancement: Wilson, as the new Puppetmaster, has made drastic changes to Their world. It is far less reminiscent of an unforgiving wasteland, and more of a tamed land full of high-tech, steampunk-themed wonder. This will have a profound effect on the advanced aspect of surviving in this land.

-The World is Changed: No longer will you face the menace of Merms, or the disgusting Pig Kings. Puppetmaster Wilson has done away with such minor civilizations, and instated a full rulership of the Cog Civilization, a race of clockwork beings far more diverse and capable than what Maxwell's particular few creations could do. From flying scout drones to hard and nimble guards, if you would dare to battle these creatures, be ready to fight a hard fight....

-The Flow of Battle: The battle system would be quite different. No longer would a consistent reliance on kiting be needed for victory. With the introduction of low-level, affordable munitions for long-range combat, the repeater is now just as considerable as the sword or the club. Projectiles will move slower than the old blow-darts, however, with the exception of the repeater's pellets, so that it is possible to dodge the more damaging munitions of the world.

-High Technology, High Risk: A wide variety of new technology awaits you, alongside updated versions of what you are already familiar with. Ovens, jukeboxes, more advanced research stations, and steam-powered buildings will aid your survival further. But with them comes a risk, the danger of trying to keep such powerful machines working and functioning properly. The prepared player will be ready in case of a critical failure, but beware that some machines may become unstable if run for too long, and pose a direct hazard to the player.

-Mechanical Madness!: The effects of sanity, or lack thereof, are much more profound now. The new age of survival may be here, but the old pains remain. For They, and their shadowy pets are still roaming the world. Falling into the depths of madness may call them to you, even the hostile ones. Reaching true insanity will cause a wide variety of random events to be possible. Most of which will be bad. Machines reanimating and seeking you to have bodily harm, dementia, temporary loss of sight, and more could happen! Direct exposure to nightmare fuel in any form will harm your sanity unless you jar it up.

-Maintenance: weapons and armor can be repaired with a tool and the right resources. No longer are you limited to only repairing non-armor clothing with a sewing kit.

-Metal Age: Among the return of familiar resources such as flint, nitre and gold, there are new alloys needed to create the lucrative items. Tungsten, Glassium, Corrundum and Nightmarius ores await cooking in an oven.

-New Magic: Their powers never stop growing. With the right machines, you can once more blend technology and magic, and hope to wield one small iota of their power. Fly, move entire buildings around, become invisible and more! But watch your sanity...

-An Old Friend: Ready to actually get to the bottom of what's going on around here? Maxwell hides somewhere deep underground, in the Thulian Ruins. If you want any chance of leaving this place again, you'll need to find him, and quickly. Wilson grows bored of you the more time you waste spreading your camp outwards.

-Beware of Charlie: Charlie is still around, and even more sore than she was before. Just because she has Maxwell to keep her company does not mean her anger has grown any weaker. If anything, she's become more unforgiving than before. She will still stay out of any sort of direct light that would let you see her.

-Make your own adventure: Maximum modding support, again. Access to the Don't Starve shell would be paramount, as well as being able to play AVI/MP4 videos within the game.

-Make the Map Editor actually be fun to use. As well as add genuine support for more linear adventure maps. Minecraft-style.
